I figured out how to open the files in vassal... but do I really have to click threw each and every logfile action? It seems sorta crazy and I feel like I'm doing it wrong.

The shortcut key for stepping forward is the "page down" button on the keyboard, try holding it down to speed through it a bit more quickly (particularly when they're setting dials). Sometimes the window focus in Vassal is a bit weird and page down might not work, just manually click the button once then try again if so.

If you have the means, you can write a macro that automates clicking through the logfile. I use a Belkin n52 TE with two different macros, one faster than the other for when the players are setting their dials.
