What would be the best bomber build?

I am trying to decide on what type of bomber list I should build, each one has some really good reasons to fly it. Here are the lists.

List 1) 96 points

6 Scimitar Squadron Tie Bombers. This has 12 attach dice, and 36 hits it can take, (The highest of any build that I know of.) Bombers are, for the most part, immuned to one shots, and really not as sensitive to area effects weapons,(such as seismic charges), as other ships. With the remaining 4 point I would purchase two seismic charges.

List 2) 100 point

5 Gamma Squadron Tie Bombers each with a Seismic Charge. This build has 10 attach dice, and 30 hits, and 5 area effect bombs.

List 3) 99 points

Jonus Tie Bomber with Squad Leader & Seismic Charge

2 Gamma Squadron Tie Bombers with Assault Missile & a Seismic Charge.

1 Scimitar Squadron Tie Bomber with Assault Missile & a Seismic Charge.

This list has 8 attach dice and has 24 hit. Has a AWESOME Alpha Strike and is backed up with 4 area effect Seismic charges. (I am favoring this build the most.)

List 4) 100 points

4 Scimitar Squadron Tie Bombers

3 Academy Pilots Tie Fighters.

This List has 14 attach dice, and 33 hit, and makes the best use of the Tie Swam Tactics.

(A 8 Tie Fighter Swam would have 16 attack dice, and 24 hits.)

So which one is the best?

I have flown this. It was easy too fly and it bowled most things over.

I'd probably go list one. I'm not sure the extra TIE on the board in list 4 makes that much of a difference,but the Seismic Charges in list 1 might.

Seismic on the scimitar and the rest of the points are to taste. I'm partial to a mix of cluster and concussions with another seismic.

QUestion, What is a Gsa?

Could some tell me what is a "Gsa"? I looked though every card, and I can't make sense out of this!

I'm playing around with the idea of getting Colonel Jendon in with three bombers. Handing the bombers target locks would free them up to either barrel roll to get back into/out of range for their missiles/torpedos or focus to improve the quality of the shots. Jendon plus 3 scimitars (with seismic charges) is 80 points, meaning I could spread 5 4 point torpedoes/missiles among them

Could some tell me what is a "Gsa"? I looked though every card, and I can't make sense out of this!

I'm guessing it's just code for the contents of the list. (3) (G)ammas, 1 (s)cimitar, 1 (a)cademy = 3Gsa.

"3GSA" is the list title as in: 3 Gamma/Scimitar/Academy

Title... I also still have a 3Gs iPhone... So I giggle at it. Gets the job done... Just like my phone.

+1 for Howlrunner with maximum Bombers. It's strong.

I like jendeon with weapons engineer +st-321, 3x gamma with seismic and that leaves 8 pts for assorted missiles and torps to taste

This is awesome in theory, but really suffers when your opponent knows how to avoid getting target locked and in range of your missiles. Definitely mix Cluster and Concussion missiles if you use it. The low PS of the pilots is a problem.

Bombs are much better on low PS bombers. No TL needed.

All true - low PS means you can easily be unable to acquire a target lock before your opponent moves. The key to the list is to play the long game. Bombers are decent dogfighters - 30 hull points with 2 evade is nothing to sniff at - and with 6 Hull each you don't need to worry too much about a crippling Alpha strike (if you get one it's a big bonus), but pick and choose when you take your shots.

Stagger your formation, pick up your target locks, hold fire until you have a focus to go with them. Block movement when you can and you'll get your shots eventually.

Bombers with Concussion Missiles or Cluster Missiles can absolutely wreck anything with 2 evade dice or lower, and a 5 Scimitar list can still quite often outnumber it's opponents. It is the optimum Bomber build? No, but it might be one of the optimum ordinance builds, and it's a hell of a lot of fun when you start getting those shots off.

I like running Jonus and Howlrunner together it works well.

My favorite bomber list is

Jonus w/squad leader

3xScimitar w/Assault and Cluster Missiles.

Gives a great alpha strike and if you fly right a good beta strike too. Missiles for all ranges plus Jonus' reroll and at least one Scimitar with TL and focus due to squad leader. Also pretty resilient with 24 hit points, 2 evades each, barrel roll, etc. People always make the mistake of shooting at Jonus first, but he is only good for his reroll.

I would use list 3.

BTW List 1 does NOT have highest hipoints of any build. 5 Y-wings has 40 hp.

Ok, so I made Top 8 in the Houston Regionals with:

5x Gamma + Seismic Charges

It's a really, really intimidating list and a lot of people really mess up when they realize they can't go behind the list or they will die. The PS4 means you can drop after most swarms move. It's not quite as good against Phantoms, and I haven't played it since they came out.

I should note that the highest HP you can currently get in a squad is:

46 hit points in 5 ships with 14 attack dice. 10 more than your 6 Bomber list. :)
