Living Star Wars Game

By NicoJMont, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I am often hosting Star Wars Edge of the Empire and Age of Rebellion games as private groups. I often see and meet new players who wish to join a Star Wars game but there is never room.

Well I decided to fix that and try to start a Living style Star Wars RPG campaign that is open to the public here locally in the Twin Cities in MN. To start I plan on running all of the book adventures and from there throw in a few other games I find online and write myself.

These games would be open to the public and players can come and go as they please. This way new players who can't find a group have a place to play and experience the game as well as can mingle and meet other players and form their own group. I think this is a good way to encourage the fan base and increase the players and buyers of the product.

As a call to action I want to encourage other GMs in other markets to do the same. We can even use these forums to share adventures that we write turning it into a living style galaxy.

Who is with me! Maybe we can even get fantasy flight support.

Locally I am thinking of running these games at Village Games in Anoka, MN as well as Fantasy Flight Event Center in Roseville, MN. To help this grow I would love to get some volunteer GMs too to help run multiple tables. To start local players can sign up by clicking the link below

Why must I lie in the one US state where nearly nothing happens?

Sounds like a good idea, though. I'll try to see if my local hobby store would be able to do something like this. If this could become a widespread community, then I could see real potential. Plus, I'm sure hobby stores all around would like to see any extra customers they'd be having with this.

Neat!

If you need modules, I've created two already; pre-typed and everything, they're even posted in these forums already. Feel free to give them a shot, and tell me how it goes.

This Saturday will be my first set of games.

I already have a single table of 6 in the AM

And 2 tables in the evening.

If anyone else joins I will have to had a second table in the morning and a third in the evening. So this is popular already.

We will open with the beginner box for Edge but I am encouraging my GMs who are running the tables with me to allow for the adventure to expand so people can explore the city. Despite opening with the beginner box we will be using the full set of rules right from the get go forgoing the simplified rules in the beginner box.

Prior to each game we are hosting a 30min learn the system scenario. I may print off some play aids to help show the rules.

At the end of the day me and all of my GMs Will take a consensus of how each table ran and use it as an official reckoning of the events. Will post the results here early next week!

All of the players except 1 have never tried the system yet so I hope they will have fun and we will see if books fly off the shelves.

I may even buy a set of dice and give it away to 1 random player who buys a book. Think of it as a way to encourage and grow the community.

Hope this takes off!

If you don't mind using some printer ink and purchasing some acrylic sign stands at your local office supply store, you might find these useful. I created these signs when I ran Mos Shuuta and Long Arm at a convention a year ago. The characters use the 3x5 stands, while the scene/encounter pictures use the 5x7 stands. I also have some maps and larger pictures that use the 8.5x11 stands. You'll need six of the small stands (one for each PC), plus a few of the others to rotate the scenes around.

Character Stands for EotE Beginner Game

Encounter Stands for Mos Shuuta and Long Arm of the Hutt

The character PDF also includes a couple of posters that I used to attract attention to the game. You could just put them on the tables in a 8.5x11 plastic sign so players know where the games are being run, or tape them to the wall. Or ignore them :)

OggDude. These are great! I will use them. Thanks. If you have any more content like this would love to see it!

As you wish. This topic is about what I did for the AoR Beginner Game adventure :)

Ok everyone yesterday we opened our public games with Escape from Mos Shuuta the beginner box. We had a total of 3 tables all run the adventure at our local gaming shop.

People had lots of fun trying out the system for the first time. To make this event special I purchased 2 sets of dice and gave them away as prizes in a random drawing. A few people bought books and most everyone was asking that I run these public games more often. They stated that they all had been wanting to try and play the game but could never find a game. So the lack of a public game was hurting the community. An exciting thing that came out of the game was that we had one group form their own private group and everyone is signing up for more public games and a few are saying they may bring friends. So we are growing!

Here is how the games progressed. SPOILERS AHEAD

Game #1

Our heroes run into the cantina and fail to all hide in time forcing a confrontation with the Gamorrean Guards. One hero convinced the Twi'lek dancer to let them back stage, the wookiee sits at a table full of people cowing them with intimidation so that they handed him a drink and accepted him at their table. The droid hurtled the bar and with amazing deceit started cleaning the bar. It was our local explorer who tried to go for the closet behind the bar that was unable to hide. In a last dich effort, with initiative they leap back over the bar and sit next to the Wookiee and his friends hoping no one would notice. But it was too late. The Gamorreans rushed in and overwhelmed the explorer knocking her out of the fight. It took the rest of our Heroes to put down their pursuers.

After being kicked out of the bar they went to the junk shop to purchase the hyper matter reactor. They quickly convinced the old man that they worked for Trex. When asked to pay the $500 credits Trex promised the old man they cowed him with threats and he gave them the part.

Not worrying about clearance to take off our heroes head straight for Trex's ship. They spy on the ship and see the boot locking the ship down. Also spotted a pair of security droids. They decide to sneak into the bay's control room only to discover it is locked down at star port control and they need to backtrack to star port control. While this is going on one of the droids hears something and before they can report are quickly dispatched.

Without raising any suspicion they head to starport control and convince the security droids to let them pass as they were there to pay a debt owed of pass due docking fees. Once inside they continued the ruse convincing people they worked for Trex and payed his docking fees getting the ship released.

Headed back to the starport they ran afoul with Stormtroopers. In an instant with amazing prowess they put down the troopers and with triumph learned there is a connection between Teemo the Hutt and the Empire.

Back at the starport things were quiet too quiet. The droids they dispatched earlier were cleaned up and now both ramps on the ship were down. They tried once again to sneak aboard but the Force was not with them. With security cameras in full force our heroes were spotted. But all remained quiet. Our heroes split the group. 1/2 went up the cargo ramp and 1/2 went up the boarding ramp. This is when the trap sprung. Trex faced off the heroes at the cargo ramp from cover. But that did not stop the wookiee from raging forward and engaging in melee. At the boarding ramp our heroes were not fairing as well. And only 1/2 of they group made it up the ramp overcoming the last of the droids. Meanwhile at the cargo ramp Trex puts down the wookiee but now finds himself flanked. He is soon defeated. After licking their wounds they throw Trex's body off the ship leaving him for dead (or is he? Dun dun Dunnnnn) and install the hyper matter reactor then head for space.

In space they are engaged by Tie Fighters which they out fly and quickly dispatch. As they go to enter hyperspace they realize their fuel is low, klaxons begin blaring and what is that smell...

At table 2 much of the same unfolded. This time with a twist. Here is how the games progressed. SPOILERS AHEAD

Our heroes run into the cantina and barely are able to all hide in time. One hero convinced the Twi'lek dancer to let them back stage with a bribe. Another hero tries the Twi'lek without a bribe unsuccessful but with initiative and the force it was their destiny to hide at a booth with a bunch of guys. As a very attractive female she was welcomed buy this group of single men and she enjoys a drink plus wings of some creature. The wookiee hurtled behind the bar and went for the closet tearing off the door from its Hinges and steps inside placing the door back in its place holding it up. With initiative the hero back stage dims the lights in the bar and sets off a light show with Strobe lights making it harder to see, The troupe of Gamorreans look around seeing nothing of interest leave. The bartender not too impressed clue our heroes into Trex's ship and kick them out.

After being kicked out of the bar they went to the junk shop to purchase the hyper matter reactor. They try to convince the old man that they worked for Trex. But he noticed a Wookiee in the party recognizing the bad blood between the species and seeing through the lies. So they tried negotiating with the man convincing him that they could install a vocabulator on his astromech so it could better warn him of visitors. They also promised him protection from Trex. After paying the man they were off to the starport.

Not worrying about clearance to take off our heroes head straight for Trex's ship. They spy on the ship and see the boot locking the ship down. They also spotted a pair of security droids. They decide to split the party sending 1 to sneak into the bay's control room

While the rest engaged the droids. Not being stealthy enough an alarm was sounded and more droids arrived quickly taking down, with multiple critical hits, the only hero in range of their blaster fire. But he was quickly avenged when the Wookiee started taking out the droids. Our last hero breaks into the control room in the starport only to find Trex. He quickly runs away. Trex wounds him as he flees. Then Trex spots the Wookiee. Quickly the Wookiee hero fins himself flanked by Trex and his remaining droids and is quickly dispatched, with a series of crits. Our last more noncombatant hero must now face off against a single battle droid and the might of Trex. Despite the ship still locked down by spaceport control he rushes for the cargo ramp, the only ramp down. He hoped to get inside, raise the ramp and use the starship guns to eliminate the threat. But as he was rushing up the ramp he too shared the fate of his friends. The dark side was all about and our heroes defeated.

They wake up locked in cells aboard Trex's ship next to a Twi'lek in a cell. Klaxons are blaring and what is that smell!

Despite being defeated they did survive only to be rescued by another group stealing Trex's ship and like the heroes of that adventure find the Twi'lek in a cell they find these dispatched heroes. So the adventure continues...

I did not personally run table 3 so details are limited.

The heroes tried hiding in the bar and failed but managed to fight off the Gamorreans.

They went to the junk shop and convinced the man they worked for Trex.

They went straight to spaceport control and sneaked in a back door sending the droid in to pretend he worked there successfully releasing the lockdown on Trex's ship.

They defeated Stormtroopers in the streets by luring them down alleyways where their numbers meant little. But they do not know why they were attacked by the troopers.

They used all their cunning to lure Trex out of his landing bay only to double back and steal the ship leaving Trex alive and mad.

They quickly defeated the imperial Tie Fighters then installed the Hyper Matter Reactor and tried to go to hyperspace. Suddenly Klaxons blared, fuel gage read low, and what is that smell...

Congrats to Dave Salazar and Brian Martin for winning the free set of Custom Dice for the game.
