Best way to use the E-Wing

By Battle Brother Olaf, in X-Wing

Hello all!

I have recently acquired an E-Wing (as well as 2 Z-95s) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to use it. The list I'm planning on taking to a local tournament tomorrow is as follows:

Han Solo:

-PTL

-Gunner

-Milennium Falcon Title

-Saboteur

Corran Horn:

-R7 T1

-FCS

-Predator

Any suggestions?

A two ship list? You'll have trouble generating enough firepower. Even with two good offensive guys.

Two ships seems to be the standard for Han Shoots First lists.

Yeah two ship even with the double tap is only nine dice versus a swarms sixteen with re-rolls, it won't have the fire power or hit points to win.

I triyng something similar last week, and works quite good.

Corran ability is really good. I use R2D2 + Engine Up. + FCS + VI. I was thinking to try with predator us well, and Chewie instead of Solo.

I've usually seen two rookies or two y's along with the hsf.

You could clear some space and take ptl from han. Their arnt a ton of good green manuevers on a yt so two actions is not usually worth the predictability of a one evade ship. Also han+gunner means your already re-rolling so just a focus action let's you essential do both.

Well, my main question isn't as much about fine-tuning the YT-1300, but about creating a solid list with the E-Wing. From what I've gathered, it's kind of pointless to take the E-Wing without upgrades, as that's part of what you're paying ridiculous points for and they really help make it effective. Apparently, the named pilots are also a lot better than the generics. That being said, a tooled up E-Wing comes in at quite a few points and I'm trying to figure out what else I can squeeze in.

As far as the suggestions for the YT are concerned. Gunner and Han complement each other nicely, as you effectively have three chances to re-roll. You're more or less guaranteed to hit something. I've seen this combo used to great effect many times over. A friend of mine flies an HSF list with Han and Wedge and regularly makes it to the top 3 in local tournaments, and has done quite well in the FFG regionals in Poland. He tends to struggle against swarms, but then so do most Rebel lists.

I like Corran Horn with FCS and Marksmanship. Free offensive focus on his End Phase attack, if you so choose. I've been running him with Airen Cracken, giving him a free action so he can TL to improve his his odds at range 1, or barrel roll out of arcs and whatnot.

Battle Brother Olaf, do you like warm hugs?

Han shoots first was always Han plus 2 X's or B's. With the z-95 though I have used 2 Z's and Tarn to great effect. It gives the list some great blocking ability and more shots.

I've had some success with EXXX.

Agent, when you say EXXX, what pilots/upgrades have you used? By my calculations, you'd have to go with 3 Rookies and even then you'd only have 37 points to spend on the E-Wing?

That's no moon!

Blackmoon Squadron Pilot — E-Wing 29
Sensor Jammer 4
Blackmoon Squadron Pilot — E-Wing 29
Sensor Jammer 4
Luke Skywalker — X-Wing 28
Predator 3
R5-P9 3
I actually used this and its quite fun. It requires your to fly at the top of your game though. People underestimate the jammer till it has canceled 3-4 of their attacks.
So if you only have 1 E, try Etahn with some upgrades and some other stuff. If you want high mobility, something like this might prove to be useful.
Etahn A'baht — E-Wing 32
Push the Limit 3
Sensor Jammer 4
Tala Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 13
Tala Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 13
Jek Porkins — X-Wing 26
Push the Limit 3
R5-D8 3
Hull Upgrade 3

Etahn with R2-D2 + 1 point upgrade and 3 rookiees

A two ship list won a regional! :-O

Chewbacca w/Predator, Gunner, C3P0, and MF Title along side Corran Horn w/R2-D2, Engine Upgrade, Veteran Instincts, and Fire Control Systems

Yesterday I faced a 2 E-wing list in a store tourney, was Corran Horn and Ethan both tooled up with PTL and I wish I could remember what else, I know one had R2D2 rebuilding it's shields, they were as hard to hits as TIE interceptors, had to ionise one of them and have him run into a Z-95 just to take away his tokens so I could nail him in the last turn, he'd had such an incredible run of green dice vs my ships

Another possibility I'm considering is:

-Etahn A'Baht + Elusiveness or FCS or Squad Leader

-2x Rookie

-2x Bandit

In theory, if they all fly together, they chuck out a lot of dice each shooting phase, in theory all have TLs so get re-rolls, and Etahn guarantees one hit that makes it through will be a crit. As long as they stay in formation (probably Etahn and the two Bandits at the back and the two Rookies in front of them) everything should work well. However, things might get a bit iffy after the first exchange of fire.

Probably sacrificed a family member to the dice gods, I have to use 3rd cousins as close family have become rare.

I've tried EXXX with Etahn equipped with R2 Astromech and PtL with 3 Rookies. Faced off with Wedge, Biggs and Dutch. In that game I did not lose a single ship. I also tried Corran with R2, PtL, APT, FCS and Stealth Device and Etahn with the same except Sensor Jammer instead of FCS. It was great fun albeit difficult to fly just two small ships and keeping both alive. Faced off with a Defender, an Interceptor and Echo. Etahn took some early damage and had to turn off and regroup, during that time Corran sent his APT on the Interceptor, and double tapped on Echo who had parked right in front of him while decloaked (bit of a mistake by my opponent, but he was new to phantoms) and then they both ganged up on the Defender two turns later, Etahn's APT and Corran's double tap at range 1 got a bit too much. It's not a list I'd use for competitive play, but it's fun to just mess around every once in a while. ^^

I put together a list for a store tournament a week ago and ended up in 4th place.

I took the following:

-Etahn A'Baht with PTL, FCS

-Airen Cracken with Wingman

-2x Rookies

The general idea was that Etahn and Cracken would fly behind the Rookies, Etahn making it easier for himself and his squadmates to get crits and using PTL to take an evade and a focus every turn. The logic was that since he was flying an E-Wing and was more or less the lynchpin of the squadron he'd attract a lot of fire, and he would use his 2 actions to increase his ability to avoid damage. As a side effect, he'd also draw fire away from the rest of the squadron. He'd also use the FCS to boost his offensive potential. Cracken's role was to chip away at enemy ships, force them to use focus and evade tokens and then give Etahn or one of the Rookies another action. Aside from that, he'd allow Etahn to keep pace with the rest of the squadron by sucking stress off of him with Wingman. The Rookies were intended to do a most of the damage, taking advantage of Etahn's special rule to cause critical hits on enemies that had been softened up by the two named pilots. All in all, the list worked well. I won my first game, against a fairly inexperienced player. My second game was against one of the group's vets, who was using 4 TIE Phantoms. I'd never faced them before and had no idea how to deal with them, so the prospect of dealing with one was unappealing, let alone having to kill off four. In the end, I lost my Rookies but took out 3 Phantoms. Etahn's special rule allowed me to get a one hit kill against one of them, by using a Rookie to hit three times, change one to a crit, knocking the shields down and scoring a direct hit. The third game was hard fought, but in the end once Etahn went down, my remaining two ships were outmaneuvered and picked apart. On the whole I loved flying with the list and am probably going to take it to the Polish Nationals, albeit possibly with some tweaking.

I do.

Has anyone tried 3 E-wings yet?

Tonight I'm trying Etahn with advanced sensors and shield upgrade along two Blackmoons with advanced sensors and r2's.

I played a couple of games with Etahn, Corran and a Knave.

they went well, but I think a big part of that came down to mis-managed Phantoms on the enemy team.

I suggest you switch the shield upgrade on Etahn for R2D2; you'll probably get more mileage from that than an extra shield.

Saw this too late! Oh well maybe next time.
