I'd rather have a giant touchscreen surface that read RFID chips in the ships bases and projected arcs and lasers and explosions and **** that'd be expensive.

A built in arc and range ruler would be truly killer. But I think the video is showing a fairly early stage product.
Can they add a prism so we can see fire arcs because that would end so many game pauses as you move around the table.

I don't care so much for the pew pew, though it is nice, as much as I'd like laser firing arcs. That's the big winner.
But, those bases also look a bit larger than normal. Gotta keep their footprints regulation size.

Watching the video I think the whole point is more or less novelty. They're not trying to add utility to a game, they're trying to make it more visually attractive.
Myself I think I'd rather have more utility, and if they could use this tech for that it would be nice. But I'm not sure that's the idea behind this.

Would have to be careful since the arcs are not actually 90° but everyone thinks of them that way.
Interesting but probably not legal. If it projected the firing arc, especially if it did so constantly, I'm guessing it would never get past "go" considering how much venom there is when someone just suggests using a laser line to check firing arcs.

I recommend removing actual Star Wars movie footage from your demo video, especially before launching your Kickstarter.
