And holy CRAP did it ever! If you're flying Kyle or Jan...

Holy CRAP you can make this thing even more versatile. Which is great because these two WERE very often in the same ship. As a Dark Forces fan I fly the HWK a lot.
But holy **** this gives me three times the legitimate reason to. Just... Wow, that's awesome. If you're flying Jan with Kyle as a copilot, you can give somebody an attack die, and not too soon later, take that stress away and slap a focus on yourself! AND THEN BLASTER TURRET.
It's like, "How much ass can I kick while making others kick ass?"
HWK just got even better!
Kyle will work good with Jan, or a ship with PTL, but anyone else should probably take recon spec instead.

Only downside is if all your other ship die and then you only have 1 focus token.

Or fly Kyle crew with Wingmen (on other ships of course)
Edited by DanathIf you fly Kyle I'd say your choices will be Jan + Ion Cannon Turret or Recon Spec + Blaster. This is even if you are using the Moldy Crow. It's the same cost either way but with Jan instead of Recon Spec you will not be generating Focus tokens as quickly and thus be missing them to use with the Blaster. Of course you could put Jan on a different ship and just have Kyle near by feeding tokens.
exactly how good is a HWK also? I feel like when I sub an X-wing in for the ICT HWK that list just does better.
That said, I've been counting the kills on my ships and its so far tied for highest.
The hawk is a force to be reckoned with, mostly because people don't believe it's a force to be reckoned with.
HWK doesn't need recon spec if it has the Moldy Crow title.... just start out going slow, stokcpile a few tokens, and you'll be good to go when it comes time to shoot.

Yeah. My dad made that mistake- badly. This might sound crazy, but I treat the HWK like an X-Wing when I fly it, but ensure it always has escort.

Just about the only real way to fly the crow. But it's deadly as all hell when you do it like that.
I used to fly Biggs walks the Dogs a lot, and I recently subbed out the Rookie for a Rebel Operative with an Ion Turret. OMG what a change. That ship became MVP of the lot. It locked down so much stuff and its deceptively hard to kill. It fires last, so i can choose to shoot something without tokens. It has 2 agility, so it can dodge quite a bit, especially with focus on it. And everyone ignores it. It has walked Bwings off the table, killed Fell, set up Echo to be molested. Its a great little ship.

ALL HAIL THE HWK!
I did well some Imdarr's with:
Roark + BT + Rec Spec
Tarn
X2 Blue Sqauadron + FCS
Roark does great for the same reasons mentioned...every one forgets he's got 3 atk dice.
I haven't a game since imdarr(except teaching some first timers), so I'm excited to try out new options.
I'd really venture to say it's the best ship in my arsenal, entirely because people see a little red 1 and go, "Hah."
AND THEN I GO, "HAH".
The moment where Roark killed Maarek Stele with his primary weapon at Range 3 was an awesome moment.
With so much anecdotal evidence, it must surely be an amazing ship.
Hey, everyone loves an underdog.
Except the Y-wing...
The moment where Roark killed Maarek Stele with his primary weapon at Range 3 was an awesome moment.
The game where both Roark Garnet and Maarek Stele were played was an awesome game, I have no doubt.

Hahahaha! Nice!

What, you expect us to start recording our matches to prove a point? If I had a good camera I would.
I believe everyone here, so I don't think that's necessary.
I'm looking forward to the Jan Ors gunboat.

By which he means, people don't have to be lying for their individual experiences to be... well, individual.
Now, with that said, I'm pretty convinced by my personal experience that the HWK is a fairly effective ship, hampered mostly by the fact that there's really only one competitive turret choice, and it provides control rather than damage.
All this in mind, I still need to work on my HWK/X/Z(or E) list.

It's very effective at what it does, but what it does is very niche.
And that role is to support other ships. Never fly an HWK alone- always with escort is the way to go for proper flight. Treat it like an AWACS. Essential, but not your main combat craft.
Right, but I think it's even more niche than your usual assortment of support ships. The only HWK pilot that I might casually throw into any list would be Roark, but Kyle is just way too combo intensive for my tastes, and I would need a really good reason to spend 25-30 points for Jan's extra red die. So, is the HWK effective? Yes, in the right place. Is it amazing? That might be a strong word.
