Next month here is Seatle we have the PAX Prime gaming convention. Its over Labor day weeknd.

FFG has announced a 64 person X-wing tournament at PAX.

Two huge issues with this:

1. Its on Friday at 10 am. Why? Now if you did want to attend the tournament you will have to take time off work to do so. It just doesn't make sense to do a tournament on a weekday.

2. And worst of all, they have announced this tournament AFTER PAX HAS BEEN SOLD OUT! So now if you don't have a ticket already good luck getting one and getting to the tournament of a Friday to participate.

Seattle's X-wing community is pretty robust, but I don't see how they are getting 64 people. Not on a Friday and not after annoucing the tourney after the **** thing is sold out. I'll be shocked if they get the 64 people.

Would you rather they not have a tourney at all? Perhaps this was a late decision to attend and they figured better to attend late than not at all. And if they weren't attending at all, you wouldn't be upset that they're running on Friday and announcing after sold out. Seems to me you should be happy that FFG is hosting an X wing tourney at a large event they were previously not supporting. If this one goes decently well, I'd expect a larger one next year, in a better time slot, and with more advanced notice.

bummer, I was thinking about heading up. I live in spokane. thanks for the heads up that it is sold out. I would not have even thought about needing a ticket.

Friday doesn't seem that strange to me. I dunno about you but most conventions I go to I go the whole weekend and take Friday off anyway. I don't think they'll have an issue with attendance at 10am on a friday (especially at a huge event like PAX)

It's kind of a moot point either way. Pax prime tickets are sold out in minutes. So either you were planning to go regardless and were waiting for the sale to open, or you have to buy them second hand.

Either way, I'd guess most of the people who play will not be locals.

Most of PAX isn't Seattle area players. Now those players already traveling to PAX will know to pack their ships. I have little doubt they'll find enough players.

A lot of good points here. If you've been to any PAX event in the past, you'll know it's only getting more and more difficult to attend. The tickets and venues are selling out faster each year, even with the slight raise in capacity.

I agree with Khyros, it's possible they made a last second decision, or someone else dropped their panel and FFG was able to secure a spot. Either way, I don't think it would be difficult at all to secure 64 players. Although I do agree with you that Friday at 10am is an odd time, mainly due to the fact that showroom and main floor events usually open at 10am. This means that most folks would be struggling to make it in time, unless they lined up where they need to be well in advance.

Still, I am glad they are being represented there, it's a huge opportunity.

This would have pushed my decision to go if I would have known about it beforehand. At least I would have attempted to get a ticket. But now its like, "hey we are going to have a big tournament close to you, but you can't attend it!"

I guess its better than nothing, but its still poor planning.

I'm surprised they hadn't had tournaments in the past. The gaming section has tournaments of all sorts, magic, board games, etc. I wouldn't bother attending PAX just for a tournament anyway, it's a nice thing for people already attending.

seems like a pseudo regional that the Seattle scene had been asking for. No problems with it. More opportunities to play is a good thing.

Both Regionals were in places that made it too hard for many to get to, now here's another tournament that's already sold out. This seems like a last minute decision. There's a lot of players who would go to something like this if we had a little notice.

I just hopped on trying to make it happen after reading the opening 2 lines...sold out. Certainly feels like the NW has been an after thought this year.

And a regional event that regional players can't participate in doesn't really count.

Also, post 2001...I wish it was about making a grand space oddessey...

I feel for you Mr. Froggies. You've been the strongest voice in regards to the lack of a convenient regional in the NW area. It is a shame that it's limited and already sold out. And that those tickets aren't exclusive to wingers. I demand more tournaments in the fall and winter months.
