I'm looking forward to the announcement of the Bounty Hunter book (I really hope it's next). I was thinking about the thread from a while back speculating about possible new specialisations for Bounty Hunters, but I couldn't find the thread.

The specialisations I'd like to see include:

Pirate Hunters (House Tresario)

These hunters are specialists in space combat. They mainly take on pirates, smugglers and privateers. They get most of their contracts from the Imperials.

Live Capture Experts (House Benelex or Slaver Syndicate)

These hunters train specifically in the art of live capture. Their skills are in equal demand between Imperials looking to bring fugitives to justice and crime lords hoping to settle old scores with a personal touch. Their skills also come in handy for hostage rescue situations. These hunters may or may not have links to slaver rings.

Jedi Hunters (Crimson Nova)

These hunters specialise in taking down force sensitive targets, be they rogue jedi, force-sensitive exiles or rival dark side force users. They train their minds as hard as they train their bodies, with the aim to resist the influence of force powers.

For me, I'd like to see:

Repo-man (think this one was 2Pirate51's): a guy who tracks down stuff, not people. Skulduggery/Mechanics/Coercion/Streetwise, perhaps.

Private Investigator: So we have a bounty hunter spec that actually has investigative skills.

Tracer: Similar to the P.I. but focused on following someone's electronic trail (kind of an anti-Slicer).

Computers/Astrogation.

I still propose this:

Repo - as above, reposessing ships and such.

Tracer - once again, like above, finding where a quarry goes to ground and beating them there.

Slaver - specializing in taking down sapients alive. Dealing with groups and individuals.

I love the idea of a spec focused on non-lethal take-downs, but I couldn't bring myself to buy one called "Slaver".

'Slaver' feels a bit loaded a term to be a specialisation.

I would definitely like to see a 'bring 'em back alive' Bounty Hunter though.

I do know that the term slaver has a very negative impact. That being said, slavery is alive and well in star wars. Zygerrians, hutts, twi'lek and gand all view slavery as okay. I'm not even going to get into the drpid issue.

I used the term slaver because it also conjures up the aspect that the bounty hunter code doesnt consider bointies as being people, only a paycheck.

In a game and galaxy where the players can play assasins and drug runners, where should a line be drawn? What is the moral highground?

I wonder if most players think about all the acts of murder their characters commit? Sure the enemies could be firing first, or stormtroopers, even orcs or goblins in d&d.. the fact is we players choose to not see these characters as people because this is just a game.

Edge of the empire let's us play those immoral characters. Star wars is a a black and white setting in the films, but the rpg we are playing the grey areas.

I don't condone the acts of drug running, murder, or slavery in real life. But media has made characters such as Walter White and Jax Teller (just finished seasons 4 of both of these show references) protagonists. But they are not good people. Perhaps watch trainspotting, the ceiling baby parts, next time you play a spice smuggler and realize the implications of what your characters actions can lead to, and the death it can cause.

I suspect it's the Twi'lek clan leaders who think slavery's okay, rather than Twi'leks who find themselves poor.

The credo teaches us that anyone who does something that puts a legitimate bounty on them can be seen as no longer being a person. (It's about absolving the hunter of responsibility so they can get the job done without distracting themselves with questions of morality.) It's hard to imagine the same being applied to slavery.

The Assassin thing is tougher. I suppose that while it's impossible to justify slavery, there is a school of thought that tries to teach us that some assholes just need killin'.

I'm not belittling your suggestions, but pirate hunters seems a bit too specified. Maybe something that represents a judge dredd type, is a law man that goes after criminals like Pat Garrett. It would have to be named something else, like a judge or something, but it would cover pirates as well.

As to Jedi-hunters- I guess that really depends on the period you're playing in. I wouldn't have enough jedi in the current EtoE to be able to put "food on the table" for this cat. I mean, maybe a handful at best. But that's up to you... it's your game, your jedi. Probably a very lucrative career choice 20 years prior.

I think the live capture is excellent. It seems to be the route they are taking with the career in splitting it off between methods vice prey.

I created a NPC for my group that was a mix of both of these. He was more brains than brawn, and went after bounties that included data recovery, stolen artwork, credits or mapping transactions, and tracking down people where the client just wanted to know their wherabouts, such as a political figure looking for their estranged son.
