Dreamscape: A Custom Game Type

By Castlecruncher, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Dreamscape! The game where players find themselves in a never ending cycle of life and death.

Dreamscape is a campaign that has one main premise; the PCs will die often, but each time they die, they are revived at the beginning of some new world. After this main premise, there are two types of Dreamscape, currently under the names of Dremascape, which changes the rules and causes the PCs to lose all skills upon death, and In a Dream, which is a game with a more defined goal to be achieved, with a more dreamlike setting of light and dark, and with the allowance of PCs keeping all skills after their multiple deaths (it's designed as an adventure/campaign for currently existing PCs).

All of the info that I have written up for Dreamscape can be found in the link below. I plan to work on Dreamscape hard and often, and am open to any suggestions, criticism, or what-have-you from the community here in the FFG Forums. You hate it? Tell me! You love it? Tell me! You don't know what to think of it? Tell me! I just don't want to be the only person that posts on this topic!!!

If anyone wants to help with Dreamscape, they could send me a message with any added details. Otherwise, I'll continue to modify it myself.

I plan on adding a setting that's more fitting with strange limbo, being connected to the Force. I'll also include instructions on creating an adventure with Dreamscape as a one shot or as a campaign for a present group (instead of starting all over, the PCs merely start at a new location).

Also, if anyone has any criticisms or advice, they'd be appreciated. But I'd prefer not to get "Not enough stuff." I plan to fluff it out later; I also plan to eventually stylize it in the future.

I've updated the main post to be a better description/advertisement of Dreamscape. And the part with the I don't want to be alone on this topic page" isn't joking sarcasm; I feel like I seem too persistent or nobody cares when nobody responds anything. This isn't to say that I demand you respond; I just feel crazy is all, and if you don't like it, I'd like to be told that you don't like it, so I can know that I need to make changes and you can hope I stop posting on this page; I won't, but you can always hope.

(That last sentence is sarcasm, not to be taken seriously. I was just joking.)

It's an interesting idea; I like where it's going. I can see this really, really pissing off my players, though. They'd really hate losing all their skills and talents after each dream.

Beyond that, I feel like this wire up is lacking a bunch of things. I wanna know why this dreamscape stuff is happening, I wanna know more about the villains behind it. Can the PCs interact meaningfully with the dreams? Maybe as the go from world to world, they get powers that allow them to shape the dreamscape? It would definitely help with the idea that they are progressing towards something. That's what it needs most, I think. A way to show that PCs are making some sort of progress on whatever the plot is, regardless of the big red reset button that keeps getting hit.

It's still a work in progress; there is, overall, a main baddie that has trapped the PCs there. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Side Note: People care! I don't feel so crazy anymore.
