Rule question about Vader

By Blackgryphon, in X-Wing

Maybe I'm just not seeing it. Is there anything that says Vader can't do the same action twice when he takes two actions?

Pg 9 of the Rulebook states: "A ship cannot perform the same action more than once during a single game round (not even when the action is a "free action"."

Vader isn't allowed to do it anymore than any other pilot.

Core Rule Book, page 9, lower left in Bold: "... a ship cannot perform the same action more than once"

A better question: Can Vader take Push the Limit and Focus, Target Lock, and Evade in the same turn?

Yes. Check the last sentence in the right-hand column on page 9 of the core rulebook:

However, a ship cannot perform the same action more than once during a single game round (not even when the action is a "free action").

EDIT: Ninja'ed, so I'll try to stay relevant...

Yes, he can--although you have to trigger Push the Limit after Vader's second action (otherwise the stress token would prevent him from taking further actions).

Thanks to all who answered so quickly.

Would it break the game if ships were able to?

We missed that rule initially when we were learning and before we got

Competitive we even allowed you to buy an engine upgrade so that you could have "2 boost icons" in your action bar.

I'm guessing the issue was double evade tokens, now double cloak, who knows what's next. But would paying to be able to double up on actions break it? If nothing else it would be a fun pilot ability.

if you can't do 2 actions that are the same, what if you have PTL and you boost as your action, can you boost again? Because if not I've been doing it wrong. Same would go for Vader. but I would guess he can't barrel roll twice.

No. You can't do the same action more than once per turn, even if it is a free action.

You also can't use PTL to boost after using R7-T1, as that droid specifically gives a free boost action.

Same applies to Turr and Jake Farrell.

You can use PTL after a free action, as its an action. Free means it doesn't take up the one action that you are allowed.

You answered the question yourself when you wrote "again"

Push the Limit doesn't grant you any special exemption from the two action rule. It doesn't matter what combination of EPTs, abilities or upgrades you can put together, you still can't do the same action twice in a round. But take note that Acquiring a Target Lock and performing an Acquire a Target Lock Action, are two separate things. The same goes for receiving tokens like Evade and Focus from an outside source (like Garven) as opposed to performing the action to get the token. You can receive a token and still perform an action to get another one.

Was that intended for me? I am fully aware of the difference between acquiring/receiving and performing and said just that :-)

No, it wasn't meant for you. Sorry. It was meant for Salacious Crumb and confirming your comment also. :)
