Thanks to the advice and suggestions here, my daughter and I have gotten into deck construction, giving some serious thought about what cards to include, what Asylum pack themes to exploit, how to balance our decks. Wow, does that ever add a dimension of enjoyment to the game! We played yesterday and were fascinated as our plans and strategies came together, fell apart, were blown apart by each others counter-cards, etc.
After almost 40 years of gaming this is my first card game.. in a sense I'm glad I stayed out of the MTG, Yugio, Pokemon, etc. crazes and CoCLCG is my first introduction. It combines everything I love about games: thinking time, surprise and cinematic drama, great visual art, sufficient complexity, and a chance to spend quality time with my kids. My real test of a game is whether I enjoy it win or lose: I've lost 4 in a row to my daughter and am still loving it!
I am a real game fiend, so I have the core set and 5 of the 6 Asylum packs... the only reason I don't have all 6 is that The Compleat Strategist here in NYC is temporarily out of stock.
