Wingman Varient Challenge

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Hi guys,

I've always thought the idea of a team mode where teams of two faced off would be fun. Each player only gets one ship.

Can you come up with a balanced fun game mode that uses teams of two with each player only getting one ship?

I've always thought both players flying the same ship would be neat but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case.

EDIT: Variant

I've done similar things in a furball before. Three teams of two ships at 25 or 30 points per ships with no other restrictions. Baron Fel and Luke Skywalker wrecked house.

We also didn't allow teammates to discuss dials beyond general, "I'll get Wedge" or "follow my lead."

We've done furballs with 35 point ships that were great fun.

And yeah, Soontir was a powerhouse on that. It was all up to Wave 3 only though as it was back in March this year.

That's a good point, Slug. We did ours with Aces, but not yet Wave 4. I feel like Defenders and E-Wings could be great. There may be too many arcs for the phantom though.

Might be a challenge for the phantom. Though I think Phantoms would be way too good if it was just a 2v2

My local group has been doing something lately that's been a lot of fun. I read about it here a while back and suggested it as something different.

Each player chooses two 35-point ships, one Rebel, one Imperial. Each player is his own side, no friendly ships. You use one ship at a time. When your ship is destroyed, your other ship comes in the next turn and you keep alternating as long as you want. We've had six people playing at once, and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Just did 2 games of 3 by 3 last weekend where each person gets a ship they want to fly for about 40-50 points. I had to do some upgrades to keep. Things balanced and the game was great fun!
