Roll20 Groups

By thatwalshguy, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey guys,

Are there any Roll20 groups that play on here? My friends and I can't seem to get together often enough, and, I basically want to play much more.

Since Roll20 now offers an amazing character sheet and Google Hangout support, has anybody been using it? Any open games or games accepting more members?

Or, does anybody have any interest in playing?

Thanks!

My plate is pretty full but I use Roll20 a ton. If you need any help or tips on using Roll20, feel free to ask.

Hey that sounds cool.im going to look up roll20 now. I'd be interested.

Yeah! What do you do? What's your process?

Ummm... well...

I start by doing my usual adventure writing to hash out the encounters and scenes.

Then I break down the scenes and encounters into Splash pages (just a page to establish something), Basic encounters (ones with just environmental effects or something), Simple Encounters (ones that jut have enemies and a setting, but don't need details), Complex encounter (Ones where the location needs a little more detail to really visualize it consistently across the group), and Vehicle.

I keep a landing page in place up front, so when players start to arrive they have a place to say hi and do any character management. This page has nothing but their character tokens, and a funny image.

If the Adventure is a new one, I also drop in a title page to set the stage.

Basic Encounters are essentially like the Landing page, but with an image representative of the location the players are supposed to be in.

Simple Encounters have the image, as well as a space for tracking characters and range bands. I use a handful of null icon tokens to put into the initiative tracker as "slots" so we can keep track of which side is acting. Minion Groups get color coded.

Complex encounters work roughly the same way, except there's a map involved and range bands are just eye-balled. The Journal system also gives me a nice way to log characters and NPCs so I don't have to have my book open to it all the time.

Space encounters are a little more tricky, but work fine once you get the hang of it. for it I keep a basic ships deckplan available, so I know where the players are should they need to move about the cabin. A radar-style map to keep range bands sorted out (remember, facing and such don't really matter much in the game, so most crafts position relative to the PCs ship doesn't matter as long as they are in the right band The TIE Bomber can be in front, in back, or to the side of the Flaming Lion at any time should the narrative call for it to be.) Also I keep a small image up top just to keep the terrain in perspective.

Sooooo yeah.... any other questions?
