Holy crap Atlanta regional is gonna be huge

By bobbywhiskey, in X-Wing

I've seen so many people mentioning that they are going on the boards. Also, I know that a much greater % of our local meta is going to travel there after we did so well in Orlando. It's starting to look like 70+ which would be interesting, because that means it would actually beat out the Netrunner regional held in the same venue (a somewhat rare feat).

When is it?

Saturday at 11 at Wasteland. Be there. I will.

Can you just show up with some ships and play, or do you need to reserve a spot? I could theoretically drive to this.

They sold preorders, and may still have some available, but basically said they would let everyone that wanted to play in.

Just an FYI, the store also has at least 4 other card game tournaments booked on Sat. in the same store. It is a very large store but never the less is a little troubling about what could be. My cousin and I are driving down from TN.

I used to live in Duluth. Now in Seattle and I would have had to drive 4 hours to go to the regional... :(

If you're going by the events on the calendar on their actual website, none of them seem to be huge events (like a big magic tournament or something), and they are not scheduled all at the same time. And the D&d thing is like 1 table of course. Their facebook page only lists one other event as well. The store can accomadate like 150 people total. I think it'll be fine.

I know Chicago's is going to be packed. There is currently a wait list, so it is going to be filled to capacity.

Is that Registration @ 11, and start @12?

I hope you're right, I'm really looking forward to a big event. I guess I'm a little pessimistic after 3 straight disappointingly run events in the Atlanta area over the last year. 50 + players would be awesome.

I was at the netrunner regional at the venue. They seemed to be very used to running large events (a lot of magic events). They have a p.a. system and everything. The event did get started a bit late, i think 12:45 by the time people were actually sitting down to round 1, but that was supposedly some software error that day (mostly). Once is started, it ran smoothly.

Also, fwiw rumor has it that the owner/one of the owners or some such is a former ffg employ. His connections and the size of the place (and being in atlanta) supposedly helped him secure a regional for multiple ffg games, and they had a netrunner plugged in tour event there as well.

I hope they do get 50 people, and I hope as many of you as possible go and have a great time. :)

I I hope for 50+ with a more diverse field of lists than what we've been seeing so far. But the second part of that statement is probably a pipe dream, lol.

I'm not kidding in the slightest when I said I think it's going to be 70. Orlando had 47 and is a bit more isolated.

I'll be there. Pretty pumped, never been to a tournament as big as people are saying.

The Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA, regionals look like they will draw 0 people. :(

Never mind our PacNW bitterness. Enjoy your tourney. :)

I'm coming down from Asheville North Carolina with three buddies, it will be our first regional and I'm looking forward to it.

I think that this is great for this game that there is SO MUCH interest in the competitive aspects of the game that there are wait lists for events like this!

I can see next year adding more regionals to help make these events a little less crazy. I know the Pittsburgh one on had 38 people and it ended at 2am. I can not imagine when the Chicago and Atlanta ones will end.

I know people are coming up from Jacksonville, FL; down from the Kingsport, TN area; down from Asheville, NC; over from Greenwood, SC; over from Greenville, SC; and most likely a couple from the Raleigh, NC. Seems like the SE needed another regional option beside down in FL. Maybe Raleigh, Charlotte, or Greenville can get one next year, eventhough that is a little close to Hotlanta.

I can't imagine Chicago running terribly late. Dice Dojo is a great store, run by some great people but it is small. Unless they have room on the second floor to game they will be renting out storefronts next door and down the block to get big numbers. I used to do some Warmachine Tourney's there and 10 people tourney were held next door in an empty store front. Plus parking is not fun in that area.

What do you get if you win it out of curiosity?

Say how about one of you FFGF Wingers post up a pictorial report afterwards.
