Cost of attachments on starships...

By GoblynByte, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

In the text box on page 269 (Starships, Vehicles, and Mods) it states that mods for starships or vehicles cost 10 times as much in comparison to mods on gear and equipment. Does this include the attachments with prices listed specifically for starships and vehicles?

For example, reading the chart on page 271, does it cost 5,300 credits for a High-Output Ion Turbine on a starship, or does it cost 53,000 credits?

I suspect the intent was for the Attachment to be the cost listed in the book (5,300 in your example), but then any modifications would cost 1000 (instead of the 100 that it costs for personal scale Attachment Modifications) per Modification.

Reading more on the subject, I think you are right. Though, I have to admit, it seems odd that there is no adjustment for a ship's size. I would think a High-Output Ion Turbine sized and modulated to improve the output of, say, a Star Destroyer, would be more costly than one designed for a YT-1300. Or even a difference between a speederbike and a YT. I might have to eyeball a modified cost based on silhouette size.

Either way, I have to keep reminding myself of the difference in the term "attachment" and the term "mod." The fact that the associated chapter titles refer to the overall action as "modification" can be a bit misleading.

Its best not to think hard about how much personal gear and starship costs scale because they make zero sense.

They never have in a Star Wars RPG. I'm not looking for total realism. And I'm not saying it is "broken" as is. Just more simplified than I personally feel was necessary. A simple tweak will fix it. But your concern is noted.

Kind of resurrecting a dead thread, but no point in making a new one.

Question to the masses:

These upgrades cost in the CRB, Retrofitted cargo bay: 5,000; High output ion turbine, 5,300.

Would you say this is the cost for the arts or cost of parts and labor. So if you had a techie in the group, who could do this, would you change the coast, or if the PC's hired "NPC's" to do this would you charge more, and how much more?

My case is that my group does not have a mech, so they have would have to pay someone to do these two mods. Would you guys also charge for labor? They are on Nar Shaddaa, so parts and everything are easily found. I was thinking of charging an additional 20% for labor. So that would be an additional 1,250 and 1,325. So the grand cost would be 15,575. Does this sound right to you guys.

Like every other Attachment it's parts cost only.

Yeah, we’ve had this discussion before. On the one hand, I agree with you — costs for some things should be relative to the size of the ship. OTOH, it does make the rules more complex.

So, your game — and your rules. Play it how you want.
