The Rebellions BEST Ship Is: ______

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

My opinion is that it's contextual.

You should value your own likes and your own opinions more my fine Math-Winger.

Okay lets see if I can wring an answer out of you that is contextual to this topic... I need to trick it out of you.

In your Rebel Ship Collection which Official FFG X-Wing Model do you own the most of?

NUMBER!

_________

It's not mathwing, it's basic evaluation methodology, which is inherited from the fundamental logic of systematic inquiry. You can't say "this is the best X" without first figuring out what important criteria differentiate various Xs from one another.

And because in this game those criteria are context-dependent, the answer to the question is necessarily context-dependent. The ship with the heaviest defense is not the same as the ship with the best defensive efficiency, and neither one necessarily has the best offense, and in a particular list or against a particular kind of threat, any of them might be the best.

The flippant answer of "CR-90" is relevant here, and so is the response that a Phantom might be able to kill a CR-90: the CR-90 does some things very well, and because it's so damned expensive it does them better than most other ships. One of the things it doesn't do very well, though, is fine placement of firing arcs. So the CR-90 is the best Rebel ship in some important respects, but if you constrain the answer to naked and/or generic ships and include "can feasibly go toe-to-toe with a Phantom" as one of the criteria, it slips off the list.

Do you just have fun with this game... can you have fun?

;)

Do you just have fun with this game... can you have fun?

I think we have different ideas of fun. (shrug)

To be blunt, the thread topic is a silly question. You didn't ask "what's your favorite ship?", which is completely about opinion. You didn't ask "what's your go-to ship when you're looking to tank?", which is about behavior. You said "What's the best ship in each faction?" and that's such a vague question as to be unanswerable.

Y Wing. It is the most versatile craft. It can be a tank, torpedo carrier, support ship, escort. It has the best fire arc, can be given an astromech, looks awesome and has pedigree.

It also says "WTFNAEPT" slot.

A lot of the regular guys had no problem at all just answering the inquiry.

:)

Are we all kind of stupid compared to the high-minded among us?

I get what you and the other Math-Wingers have to say... but I do not let that background info get in the way of having fun. The math that tells us what ship is good at each plausible mission is fine and you need to know it.

Beyond that, just shut up and play the game already.

I do not write a thesis about food say before every meal.

know what is good for me, and what taste good to me, so rather than go on for a mile about it, I tend to fix the meal and eat it.

Shut up and eat.

Does that make sense?

:)

Not stupid, but everyone who's answered the question is doing so on the basis of a set of idiosyncratic assumptions about exactly what question they're answering. So you have twenty responses (or whatever), but they're actually answering twenty different questions.

I get what you and the other Math-Wingers have to say…

It's still not math-wing.

That's not what I'm talking about at all. You don't need any math at all to answer this question, but you do need to make the question more specific.

Beyond that, just shut up and play the game already.

No, you shut up! (See, I can be juvenile, too.)

There's a huge difference between deciding whether you like a meal and deciding on the best meal at a restaurant. If I say "what's the best thing to eat here?", it's hard to answer without knowing something about my preferences--do I have any allergies? am I a vegetarian? do I eat seafood? how do I feel about spicy food?

X-wing. I have six. Don't ask me why. Impulse buy seeking parity with the TIE fighters.

Is the X-wing the best rebel ship? No. Once again, contextual. They all bring their own abilities to the table (quite literally :P) and thus no one is objectively better than the other.

Incidentally, that stance is one of a non Math-Winger, as a Math-Winger has those jousting values and stuff.

B-Wing. I just answered it. Not unanswerable at all.

You're not answering the question he asked; you're answering the similar but distinct (and more detailed) question in your head.

iam not playin rebels but i would say that the X-wing is the best ship from da rebels. it has many named pilots, good stats like 3/2/3/2 - A/E/H/S, a good dial and in his upgrade bar the proton and astromech slot that can change his role from tank to supporter and such.

Which is EXACTLY what I wanted from everyone... in the first place.

:)

"Say guys; which is the best ship?"

I sez.

The relevant situational Day-Tah which automatically comes with an identifying response... well... I could give a F*#% less about that because I ALREADY KNOW about it.

I want to hear (read) what my buddies have to say specifically about a ship type, you see.

I will know what they are talking about immediately.

They will know that I know what they mean too.

^_^

Because we are Serious Wingers.

:D

Thus and here to fore: Cool Winger Bro anybody who participated in this topic say; answered: "Hey Boss, Uhhh... I think TIE Bombers are the best Imperial ship."

I know he(she) likes to blast a Rebel-Ass with Bombs, is likely a heavy hitter player, rather than a tip toeing sneaky sneak player, and wants things to go BOOM, sooner rather than later! Now I am going to also assume they know there are other ships that can go BOOM right fast too, but they like Bombers the most.

;)

See how easy it is?

:D

Rules Lawyers and Rivet Counters... they complicate what is dead simple and they just ain't no fun at all at parties are they?

You are not to assume that I am calling you a rules lawyering rivet counter.

X-WINGS ROCK!

:)

For many reasons, cheap, versátil, manouverty, etc, my vote is for X-Wing, greettings.

It's too bad the HWK didn't have a natural two firepower 360, I'd have taken it here instead.

But, seeing my options?

Despite not having using it, the E-Wing. No brainer.

How do you figure?

Right out of the box, E-Wing hands down. My favorite though is the X-wing as I find it to be a versatile work horse for the Rebels.

I'm with you Boss Red. It's a GAME. PLAY it, have fun, don't overthink it.

E-Wing, just when you thought the A-Wing was the only rebel ship to get 1 shotted by a proton Bomb.

Yeah man thanks for sharing buddie.

I (We) get paid to do my(our) job(s), not to enjoy playing a badass game based on a BELOVED SCIENCE FANTASY WORLD.

Why would anybody want to make a game that is almost perfect and thus extremely amiable to play, into a complex scenario that is warped into a frustrating constant problem laden debacle which needs to be fixed?

Then once they have Flubbed it up, whenever the FFG money grubbing monsters make anything that is cool and fun to play they will scream "Broken!"

"We got to fix that!"

My Don Know.

This game is wonderful and **** near perfect... yes PERFECT.

I can think of only six items I feel need to be adjusted, no wait in fact there are only five, because Munitions Failsafe is in the game now.

Yeah, if I wanted that level of aggravation I would have kept playing Warhammer 40,00 or Warmahordes. I want something that's fun, fast and furious. SWXWM fits the bill.

Just remember everyone, in reality we're all just pushing around a bunch of toy soldiers in a sandbox. So like life, lets not take it too seriously, because no one gets out of either one alive.

At least not if you're a Rebel player... :)

My job is evaluation--the systematic determination of the merit, worth, or significance of an object (program, policy, product, etc.) So answering questions like "What's the best x?" is exactly what I get paid to do.

I have no idea why anyone would want to turn X-wing into a frustrating, problem-laden debacle. It is, however, a complex system created by the interaction of dozens of discrete elements, and working to better understand puzzles like that is something I enjoy doing.

Like I said upthread, different definitions of "fun". I'll leave you alone, now.

I would have to say the B-wing it's a nice staple ship.

The answer is Falcon or B wing. In today's Meta it's Falcon though.

X-wing, it's name is on the box.

You do not bother me buddie, and I actually read most of your postings.

We are not alone here.

I played GW games for ten years and man it bothered me at the time as I watched it turn into a crap-feast run by actually EVIL proprietors.

Oh well, that all ended for me in 2000... DONE!

How about this new X-WING game huh?
