The Rebellions BEST Ship Is: ______

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

CR 90

In a 1:1 duel without upgrades it beats everything.

Challenge accepted! A tailored Phantom might be able to take it down for 45 points.

Whisper + Recon Specialist + Sensor Jammer + Elusiveness + Advanced Cloaking Device

Nope in this topic you get a Phantom off the deck.

No sneaky upgrade stuff today...

Butt-Slapped and sent forth to die or earn it's glory!

Falcon. Not ORS

Well, if I'm only buying one ship, then I guess it's just for target practice. So, I would say the HWK-290.

It is actually good in Epic, believe it or not...

I believe it--because it's good in standard play, too.

Absolutely! Cant see why you would take a Gold squadron when you can have Roark for one extra point!

(exept for the Astromech slot... sometimes... maybe...)

Either B's or the Falcon.
If I had to choose between generic pilots, it would be B all the way. ORS sucks. That lack of an attack die really kills it for me.

I don't think a naked Corvette would do so great.
But then I also just remembered the shield regeneration...I think its horrible mobility would be its downfall sooner or later.

...contextual.

Best Ship IYO.

Which?

My opinion is that it's contextual.

Best naked ship with lowest PS pilot? In descending order:

1) X-Wing - the best. 21 points for a good dial, 2 shields, 3 attack, 2 agility and only 1 red manuever.

2) B-Wing - very tough at 22 points with 5 shields and a good 3 attack. Poor dial, sure 2kturn is great but red banks and turns are bad without Advanced Sensors (and we are talking basic ships here).

3) E-Wing - a faster more agile Xwing. 6 points is a lot, but you gain a barrel roll, a 5 straight, more green manuevers and 2 kturn speeds

4) Awing - at 17 points this thing is a very fast flanker that has a tremendous dial. The great 5 kturn and a boost sort of make up for the 2 attack dice and 2 hull.

5) Z95 - Z95 are good in packs. By themselves, its the little brother of an xwing. Almost the same dial (3k vs 4k), and a little worse with 2 banks being green vs 1 banks. Its ok. The lost hull point makes them one shot quite often.

6) ORS - the generic is meh. At least it has a turret. Good dial, lots of hp.

7) Ywing - basic its ok. suffers from a weak front attack and not the most agile dial. Overall ok.

8) HWK - the 1 attack gun makes this a non-starter without upgrades.

My opinion is that it's contextual.

You should value your own likes and your own opinions more my fine Math-Winger.

Okay lets see if I can wring an answer out of you that is contextual to this topic... I need to trick it out of you.

In your Rebel Ship Collection which Official FFG X-Wing Model do you own the most of?

Base sigma could easily destroy a CR90 with no upgrades. Cloak and evade until you get behind it and then crush it with focused 5 dice shots. It would be easy.

Yeah it is good if you are flying it right.

E Wing, no question in my mind! It's replacing my XWings in builds!

Can't make up my mind... one of these...

Damnit Netflix, I have spent the last few nights building Relic Knights models and watching TNG, and I really want to try Attack Wing.

ARGH.

Yeah Adorable Rocket and Bulldog UK have done some very cool STAW Fleets.

That cost a lot to DO IT RIGHT.

You have been advised by your Big Buddie Boss.

Good thing Boss has plenty of Boss Bucks.

Best ship for available pilots and upgrades : X-Wing

Best ship in terms of potential upgradability: Falcon

Best ship in terms of Value (What comes in the box, cards, etc) : E-Wing

Best ship for meta : Z-95

Best ship because it's my personal favorite: B-Wing

Most well rounded: X-Wing.

Crabbie Strikes!

:)

Thanks Crabbok for the analysis.

What if you could add the refit to the A-wing and call it stock, what would you rank it as then?

A wing has alot going for it with aces, but I'd need to play it before ranking it. Alot of people thought the Defender was going to be more useful than nipples on a man... and we see how that turned out.

Y-WING! You will agree the first time you fly your best buddy off the board. It's hilarious.

Yt1300 easily factoring in the meta and upgrades and everything.

best ship absolutely naked, blue squadron bwing or generic z-95s.

It's not mathwing, it's basic evaluation methodology, which is inherited from the fundamental logic of systematic inquiry. You can't say "this is the best X" without first figuring out what important criteria differentiate various Xs from one another.

And because in this game those criteria are context-dependent, the answer to the question is necessarily context-dependent. The ship with the heaviest defense is not the same as the ship with the best defensive efficiency, and neither one necessarily has the best offense, and in a particular list or against a particular kind of threat, any of them might be the best.

The flippant answer of "CR-90" is relevant here, and so is the response that a Phantom might be able to kill a CR-90: the CR-90 does some things very well, and because it's so damned expensive it does them better than most other ships. One of the things it doesn't do very well, though, is fine placement of firing arcs. So the CR-90 is the best Rebel ship in some important respects, but if you constrain the answer to naked and/or generic ships and include "can feasibly go toe-to-toe with a Phantom" as one of the criteria, it slips off the list.
