Usually, I get a little miffed when people respond sarcastically to a thread, as it often doesn't add any value. In this case, I just laughed out loud for a long time ... 
Firespray. Great dial, great stats, great upgrades, does everything well but navigate asteroid fields.

Well if the fellow got confused and answered Best Pilot, then he answered pretty good IMO.
I appreciate how it appears that the rebels have a few contenders for best ship, while at most the imperials have 2.
And I've never been beaten by the imperials best.
1. Tie Fighter
2. Firespray
3. Doomshuttle
4. Tie Phantom
5. Tie Interceptor
6. Tie Defender
7. Tie Advanced
The top three, in their purest form, are good against most (if not all) lists and are highly cost-effective. The Phantom, Interceptor, and Defender are more list-dependent. All three rely on arc dodging to get the most bang for your buck. Although the Defender is tankier, turret lists (more specifically, YT...) all but nullify the premium you paid for that white k-turn. Furthermore, based on the current available ships, I expect to get more customization options for a ship with a 30 point base cost. As is, I think only the canon slot is worth much consideration and the EPT choices are limited by the fact that it's terrible at clearing stress.
Without any upgades: Tie Defender
I'd have to say, I'll go with either the Tie Fighter ( Quantity has a quality all its own ) or the Fire spray ( Just such a good solid ship straight as its generic incarnation )

Tough question. The Tie fighter is amazing at 12 points and at 18 you get the hands down best pilot ability. The Firespray is also incredibly good for 33 points and Krassis for 36 is a steal. Edge to Tie fighter but just barely.
Funny thing is they may no longer be terrifying but as a rebel player they still sure do piss me off.

You are not alone.
Use stress and high pilot skill to chill them out.
Tie fighter easily. Firespray isn't too far off though.
And phantom if you bring unique pilots/upgrades into this. Interceptor would be OK under either condition.

I don't know if Howlrunner is all that good now. With Predator if you got an EPT you can have Howls ability without the formation. Also, swarms are getting less play.
Frankly I think Cracken might be better.
I do agree that the Firespray is hard to beat at 33 points. It can be tanky and dodgey. Its a bit hard to fly expertly and I still land her on rocks.
i say Tie interceptor cause its fun to fly em and they can rek preety much everything on the board if u fly 4 of em ^^

When I am topping off a list: TIE/ln
For 'saber dance' value: Interceptor
Best generic in terms of meta efficiencies: stock Firespray.
...And the one I bought the most of because they are just plain fun: Space Cows.
I think I'd agree with most people here - Stock out the box, I'd take TIE/ln fighters and firesprays - although I much prefer the 'better' TIE fighter pilots, even without upgrades, because I find them more fun to play with.
