Yes. A card would explicitly call out “choose another friendly ship” if you were not allowed to target yourself.

This is a way for a CR90 to acquire a target lock without spending an action (and just spending energy).

Since the "Range 1 of yourself" question has been controversial, I thought people would be interested.

Very interesting... Now what are all the cards that say "friendly ship" vs. "another friendly ship"?

I wonder if he thought this through....

That's what I thought as well, but didn't want to jump to conclusions. Even though it doesn't say that directly, the implication is clear.

"Implication" may be too gentle a word here

I do wish they'd be more direct with the broader rules, but this ruling simply doesn't work unless a ship counts as Range 1 from itself. Given their history that isn't necessarily conclusive, but we don't actually have any counterexamples in this case. I think it's as solid as we're going to get.

Edit: And interestingly this means my workaround for the mandatory Swarm Tactics problem worked just fine I'm still glad they errata'ed it for clarity, though.

They now have set precedent that one-self is always included unless the text says "another ship".

This could get crazy for falcon builds...

If true, that means a named falcon with ptl, jan, c3po, and mf title can have 3 evades a turn! However that would mean no room for a gunner and with no actions on offense your attacks would be pretty weak.

But if it's late in the game and you only have 1 or 2 ships left against you you'd be nearly impenetrable and could just whittle them down whenever you get good attack rolls.

Though I was personally against the ruling that an active ship considered itself within range 1 of itself, I am willing to accept their determination that ships are in fact within range 1 of themselves as this ruling clearly explains, if only for the fact that they have now made a determination and that it has set a precedent for future card abilities referring to friendlies that do not use the word 'another' in them.

I just hope that they follow through with this decision rather than muddy the waters with a future ruling that contradicts this one.

Or at least friendly to yourself. Might be awkward on the battlefield.

Being friendly with yourself in public is definitely illegal. They have a registry for that, you know.

That's what we need. A Barfolomew crew card that lets you apply any ability aimed at another friendly ship to your own ship.

Well if this is true generally then Lone Wolf ceases to function unless what Frank says is specific to Targeting Coordinator.

As I said in the other thread. No because line wolf says other, which excludes that ship.
