2 academy pilots with targeting computers, used a similar build myself and i had a TL+focus every turn it was sweet.

I just realized that Kagi was a clone. He is mentioned by name in ROTS by Palpatine. He flies the shuttle to Mustafar to pick up Vader's crusty body.

I've never been able to get behind Kagi. At PS8, he really moves too late to get the most out of his ability. Yorr, Jendon and OGP are all easier to justify in a squad. What am I missing? How do you use him well that the lower-PS pilots can't match?

Kagi might be one of a few ships that will benefit from Enhanced Scopes. Throw APL on him and he'll annoy your opponent to no end.

On second thought, actually, i would do Phennir with TC and throw Enhanced Scopes on Kagi.

It's a bit like Biggs in the sense that shuts down FCS on Phantoms or Bs protecting my other ships. Shooting early with TL+F on beta strike is very nice and PS helps Vesseri trigger his ability every turn. It's the only named pilot I've been able to run on a list and have fun with it (his ability is R3)

I just had a fun game with:

Kagi + FCS +EU 33pts

Vesseri 35 pts

Soontir + PTL + TC 32pts

Against Defender, Vader+VI, Echo+Decoy+FCS+ACD. I can illustrate how it went with a couple of pictures:

First turn he turned away from Kagi while I moved fast and long. Soontir had no stress tokens in order to have more movement options.

Next turn he showed his strategy going after Vesseri and leaving the boys free to pull a couple of nice moves, specially Soontir with a bank 3 + Boost. At this point Kagi is already helping Vesseri survive as Vader can not TL + F or the TL goes to Kagi.

Echo triggers decoy and shoots at Vesseri removing a couple of shields. Here Kagi triggers again and Echo's free TL goes to him.

Soontir TL+Focus Defender, Kagi shoots Vader and place a red TL token for Vesseri who TL+F to Vader. Delta shoots Vesseri. Everybody survived, including Vesseri who was under heavy fire.

Next turns favored me as for example Kagi was blocking Echo's decloak to his right side limiting his moves and Soontir came from the other side with plenty of angle. Vader was dead by the next turn and Echo seriously injured.

To my squad Kagi makes sense over Yorr or Jendon but I understand your scepticism.

I like my shuttle to always come from the side and move late so that my boost pays off more. Lately as every shot counts (Phantoms are slippery, Falcons' output is very efficient) I'm all focused in damage upgrades (<3 FCS) and getting TL+F as many times as posible. But thanks for pointing out to ES, I had totally forgotten it exists.

Unfortunately, Kagi's ability doesn't work on FCS. The FAQ entry for Kagi explicitly states that when a ship with FCS attacks and would be within range of Kagi, the defending ship still receives a token. Kagi only receives one if the attacking ship has both FCS and a Weapons Engineer.

Combining Jax and Kagi can be very frustrating for an opponent. They don't want to focus or evade of Carnor is near and might end up in R1 of him, and if you make Kagi an unappealing target to shoot, they feel that TL is wasted. I have played a few games with Kagi with EU and Sensor Jammer for that reason. Unfortunately, it worked better in the previous meta and I haven't broken it out this time around because of the phantom.

I still think Kagi has a lot of worth to him. For me, I enjoy him and Yorr the most. Jendon I'd favor more if his range for passing off target locks was a bit further away. The enhanced scopes sounds good for Kagi, I really will be wishing to brainstorm for good uses of enhanced scopes when they drop.
