Fair enough. A proximity stress mine, or a proximity Ion mine would be interesting. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd like some expansion in the control space, with more emphasis on stress, ion, and possibly attack disruption. It just seemed like a good way to take the game, and if the Y-Wing happens to be along for the ride, so much the better.


Control is the most boring archetype in Magic whether you're playing it or playing against it.

Y-wing Ion then crush with a GR-75 is pretty fun.

I don't think we'll ever see a Virago, since that was a one-of-a-kind ship for a pirate king (Prince Xizor). No other copies of it were made.

After Xizor's death Mandal Hypernautics built a very large amount of them. The Zann Consortium fielded them in squadrons.
You're quite right. I remembered from the books that Virago was unique, and that the ship was destroyed with him and his Skyhook. I didn't know that the design was retained, however...

Virago was apparently destroyed in a battle over Coruscant, when Darth Vader's flagship Executor destroyed Xizor's skyhook. Soon after Xizor's death, MandalMotors regained the rights to the StarViper design and began producing inferior versions of the original craft.

I remember even in the Shadows of the Empire game there being quite a few StarVipers but I think a unique Virago title (maybe adding +1 to all stats) and a cheaper generic version would be nice. Named pilots would probably be Xizor and Guri (I doubt the Stinger would show up if the the StarViper/Virago doesn't)

Yes the Y-wing has fewer guns. Hence why it has 2 attack not 3.

I was going to say I was very inspired by part of your *essay*

I'm in the middle of a playtesting game for my DP20 Guship cards

and I have a pair A-wings charging in with Ion Pulse Missiles

trying to cut down some of it's energy early.

And it occurred to me as I read your post that a swap of

torpedo upgrades for missile upgrades on the Y-wings

would be an awesome * thing, I was ready to high-five you,

since the Y-wing would carry double the payload of the A-wing

and then with an Ion Turret it could continue the harassment.

Something like the Chardaan refit, but changing ordinance.

Speaking of the Charadaan refit, I hope they do one for Y-wings...

what would that be, a Gold for something like 14 points?

I recall "Ion Torpedoes" being a thing with the Wave 5 release. So provided the "Point Cost to Effect Ratio" are affordable. Y-Wings will probably be the Torpedo Bomber of choice and the better "Control" option.

Thanks for the encouragement. I've only had the game for about a month, and have played a total of two games. That said, it was so awesome I've been on a binge reading about everything in these forums. Just felt inspired to write something up :)

I would use the Munitions Failsafe with one IPM.

did have it in an earlier version of my 300 point build, but I swapped them out for Engine upgrades

and dropped a couple of torpedoes. Gettin' my "Flanking Huge Ships" on.

The autoblaster was reintroduced during the Galactic Civil War, now as an updated version of blaster technology. Designed for the B-wing fighter, this modern autoblaster had an even higher rate of fire than other blasters, but was not available to other models until after the Battle of Endor.

Not a very serious suggestion, but not an off canon one either.

If it has anything to do with the missing droid, I'd be inspired to continue working on some

ECM and ECCM options for the Y-wing. Maybe something as simple as one stress at a range

of two. Maybe a mini sensor and ECM package that fits in the droid slot.

Yeah he was on my ignore list, the only member here in fact because he came in screaming about Miniatures Market. I took him off and is okay for a laugh. You should ignore him if he is bothering you that much. He is one of the members here that feeds on aggressive encounters.

  • That leaves turrets. I've already taken someone's idea and made it [what I feel is] appropriate, balanced, and fluffy. There are other options as well, all of which improve/diversify the Y-wing's almost!uniqueness...yes, it will benefit the HWK-290 as well, so it has an added benefit.

I think on larger ships it works great. I am going to have them on larger models that I am currently working on for my Epic Terrain.

For small ships are you thinking about having something like mini missiles, or what?
