After Attack/During an Attack

By TracenDarkstar, in X-Wing Rules Questions

My gaming group and I came across a few questions as to when some abilities trigger.

As we under stand it when you attack you

1. Roll Attack dice

2. Modify/re-roll Attack Dice

3. Your opponent rolls defense dice

4. Modify/re-roll defense dice

Does this count in it's entirety as "attacking"?

Here's are the cards in question and when they trigger for benefits.

Colonel Vessery

TIE Defender, Unique
When attacking, immediately after you roll attack dice, you may acquire a target lock on the defender if it already has a red target lock token.
Does this mean I can use the target lock "re-roll" during the modify/re-roll section? Or it for the next combat phase?
Fire-Control System (2)
– After you perform an attack, you may acquire a target lock on the defender.
Same question- Does this mean I can use the target lock "re-roll" during the modify/re-roll section? Or it for the next combat phase?

Colonel Vessery triggers immediately after rolling the attack dice, so you roll dice, his ability triggers, then you modify dice, so he can spend the target lock on the attack he gains it.

Fire-Control System triggers after you perform the attack, so it would be after all dice rolling, modifications, and damage is dealt, so it would not be available for the attack that triggers it.

Yep, I agree with the ghostly one there. Vessery triggers at #1.5 and at #5 you should have Suffer Damage (shields/cards) and then Fire Control System kicks in after everything else is done.

An "attack" is formally defined in the FAQ, and covers all steps described for the Combat Phase, 1-7. Declare Target to Deal Damage.

Ill just add that when i use Vessery, i will usually explain his ability prior to the game. Prevents confusion during the game.
