Death Star Turbolaser Towers As New Expansion?

By Xenomech, in X-Wing

At this point I don't think it's very likely that we'll see 3D terrain for this game. Certainly our starfighters will be able to fly over any sort of ground terrain, so 2D tokens make more sense. FFG could do both, of course, giving us the eye candy and playability at the same time.

I'm with Dave on this one. The development of turbolaser towers should be left to the unofficial market. I'd like to see some discussion on the best ruleset for capturing how they would work. Dave - you have a ruleset in your version of the trench mission, don't you?

Also, we can discuss the best 3rd-party turbolaser miniatures. Anybody have any thoughts on these? The ones on Fight's On! don't look quite right, but the price is certainly reasonable.

The ones from Shapeways look pretty good, although somewhat pricey. The Fight's On towers look like they're made of stone bricks.

Well. For what its worth now that i have a better comp im revamping some of my stuff including the turbolaser towers. So far ive managed to shave about 5 or 6 bucks off the price by making it 1mm smaller all around which wont make much of a difference with the way it looks on a board but does make it take less material which logically cuts down on material cost on shapeways. It isnt detailed yet but the proportions are almost exactly the same

I know you are asking about official ones, but in the meantime, I highly recommend the ones sold by Fight's On store. They are some of the best ones that I have seen, and really cheap.http://m.fightsonstore.com/site/wrap?url=http://www.fightsonstore.com/apps/webstore/&back=http%3A%2F%2Fm.fightsonstore.com%2Fsite%2Fmobile%3Furl%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.fightsonstore.com%2Findex.htm%26dm_package%3D2

Cheers for the link. They have some cool stuff that I might NEED that I didn't know that I needed

There are these ones. They are paper-craft and too small but that can be easily remedied. I made some plasticard turrets and glued the paper over the top.

You can see them in this image. DSC09400_zpsd0249bdf.jpg

As for a pack with official turrets:

1. GW seems reasonably successful with their terrain models. I for one am surprised by this. But, this shows there is a market for it.
2. They add a whole range of atmosphere based scenarios. Game play is exactly the same but a whole new world of scenarios become available. Complete bombing runs on targets, Rescue missions, etc.
3. I read that people are becoming a little tired with the standard 6 asteroid death match games. It adds flavour. Imagine if tournaments had 2 categories. Standard and Objective. It changes the meta completely for some players without taking from the core game players.

I believe if they released a terrain pack which was treated as an optional extra to the core game .. it would be a popular product.

Some ideas:

1. 6 turbo turret pack
2. Ion cannon and shield generator pack
3. AT-AT pack (moving turret with very limited wheel) possibly with AT-STs

No one mention these ones TB001.jpghttp://www.gamesofwar.net/acatalog/Sci-Fi.html though I'm still waiting to see what happened to the Gale Force 9 ones

Very nice turrets but too big and very expensive, 18 pound each!!!

Very tempted by that asteroid set, 16 pound for the 6 painted asteroids + stands is not to bad, will need to check the shipping when Im on my computer later, but can't be as bad as shipping from the states

Very nice turrets but too big

See these look about right to me, yet I have seen others that are less than an inch tall. That's why I asked back in post 14 how big people think TL towers should be for this game.
