Firespray Internal Layout?

By RebelDave, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I did a forum search, but nothing came up that I could find that covered this.

I also know it might be a touchy subject, so i'm just looking for opinions really, noone is wrong in this regard :)

This is really out of curiosity as well, so just seeing what others opinions are on it.

In your opinion... how is the Firespray layed out internally?

One of my players has told me that it has two decks, both parallel to one another, the cargo bay below the other deck so as both decks are parallel to the ground when the ship is landed.

His justification being that it was "well described in the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy... which I have read, and didnt really feel it gave any detail.

The other view I have seen came from Robert Browns website, which concludes that the Cargo deck is indeed flat when landed, but the flight deck and 'tail' of the craft have 3 or 4 decks Perpendicular to 'down' when landed.

Such that when in flight, the 'tail' decks are now stacked in an 'up/down' fashion, while the cargo deck is now at 90 degrees to 'down'

The question of gravity is moot, as shown in the Falcons Gun Wells, and I see no issue with either, but Mr Browns theory sits very well with me.

I am aware the ship would be very confined in either respect, the former being a larger potentially open are, but very narrow, and the latter having more numerous but smaller 'rooms' accessed by a ladder going 'down' from the flight deck.

Additional questions could be:
Does the cockpit rotate? (I dont think it does, based on what we seen in AotC)

Is there 2 flight decks, with the pilot at the top, and 2 more copilot stations directly below? (Yes, I can see this being modified by users, I am sure Fett had no need of this secondary deck, and may have modified that particular space to other uses)/

How do you see the ship docking with other craft? Its shape is not conductive to having a docking hatch... again, Mr Brown suggested a hatch on the underside of the ship, behind a sensor dish of some sort... but that would need to be 'extended' to access it (Which is not practical in my view, but perhaps a part of the dish slides away)

Again... I dont want people to start a flame war. There is no right or wrong, I just want to see what other people think.

Many thanks and I look forward to the discussion!

Yeah this one is like asking how hutts reproduce. There's lots of good answers, but you're prolly not gonna like any of them.

Colonial chrome has a version.

In my mind the cockpit and area immediately behind it (an airlock) have the same orientation, with the rest of the ship oriented on the flat like the main ramp, with a 90° shift on the grav generator keeping "down" consistent on the lower deck when the ship is in flight.

Colonial Chrome?

And what about the rest of the Tail of the ship?

The elephant trunk? I'd say its a small cargo and system access area.

Something the colonial chrome guy has in an article on his site that I like is a bit about how there don't really need to be dedicated engineering sections on craft with multiple engines in star wars. Between being able to fly on a single engine and astromechs making eva repairs easy there's no need to do more then minor patch work in flight and do the real repairs back in atmo where's its easier.

That's the last official layout, but Clone Wars retconned it since then.

Its entirely possible that Slave 1 underwent some changes between when that layout was made and the Clone Wars.

Given that Slave 1 was the only Firespray at that time, any major repairs might have had some issues finding the proper parts. So it may have been completely overhauled a couple times, changing its internal layout from the factory specs.

This diagram likely shows its stock layout as its what it was when owned by Jango Fett. So we could assume that this would be the same as a stock Firespray any PCs would get a hold of.

Here is another fan made one, it has one deck that would be ground level when landed. And another that is perpendicular that would be horizontal in flight

Kinnison: that is one of the plans designed by Robert Brown, the actual graphic was made my a Mike someone based on the ideas put forward by Rob Brown, there's a couple variations based on stock/slave 1

Since you can clearly see the internal layout of the Slave 1 here, I would say that the ship is a big empty area and a chair that flips up into flight mode!

I like the cutaway. Fan made stuff never leaves enough room for mechanicals and Star Wars tech is clunky, with lots of hoses and switches, with no point and click touch screens. It has carburetors, not fuel injection.

Ahh yes, just like the movie "Put Captain Solo in the vacant void under the ramp like a dead body hidden under the floorboards of a previctorian house..."
