Best Falcon build in Wave 4

By SmartCookie, in X-Wing

So, trying to improve on my favorite Chewie with 2 B-Wings build in the Wave 4 ecosystem.

Which do you think is stronger:

Chewie (42)

Expert Handling (2)

Gunner (5)

C-3PO (3)

4x Bandit Squadron Z-95s (48)

or

Hans Solo (46)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Gunner Luke (7)

C-3PO (3)

Millenium Falcon (1)

Hull Upgrade (3)

3x Tala Squadron Z-95s (39)

Chewie ignores crits, but Han Solo laughs at Echo and Whisper.

I think the Han list is better but I would exchange VI for Expert Handling, Luke for a regular Gunner and the Hull Upgrade for an Engine Upgrade. Having a Falcon that can Boost and Barrel Roll is way too good.

Han list should also have engine upgrade instead of hull upgrade.

So,

Hans Solo (46)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Gunner (5)

C-3PO (3)

Millenium Falcon (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

3x Tala Squadron Z-95s (39)

Total = 99 points

This build will rock against Whisper with Han at PS 11.

or

Hans Solo (46)

Expert Handling (2)

Gunner (5)

C-3PO (3)

Millenium Falcon (1)

Engine Upgrade (4)

3x Tala Squadron Z-95s (39)

Total = 100 points

A more maneuverable Falcon, but shooting at cloaked Whispers.

Han with Luke and predator is more than enough against Whisper, you don't need the VI, and he would be way more solid against other lists. The Z95 are there to block and disrupt, not so much for their damage output, i would just use PS2 Z95.

But PS3 will beat out other Z builds trying to cram points. Gunner-Luke isn't anything special and Predator is redundant with Han's ability. Why bother with a re-roll when you can Barrel Roll into range 1, potentially shake a target lock and get another attack die? Predator is a decent ability, but I think its a trap for Falcon players.

My idea is:

- Han, VI, Luke, Chewie, MF title

- Blue squadron B-wing

- Airen Cracken

It have more hitpoints, better pilot skills than most swarm builds and each ship is threat, so swarm should have some hard targeting choices. I hope that synergy formed by Airen a Blue wing would be better that just 3xTala.

Chewie + Predator + C3PO + Luke Gunner

Add Z's for flavour.

These kinds of lists have been a absolutely dominating the Regionals - too many hit points to chew(ie) through and most of which does not take crits. C3PO makes the YT a beast.

Also blocking the Falcon does nothing! Phantoms can't deal nearly enough damage against Chewie before the odds catches up with it.

Chewbacca — YT-1300 42 Determination 1 Gunner 5 C-3PO 3 Millennium Falcon 1

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12

Gold Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 18 Ion Cannon Turret 5 R2 Astromech 1

This was effective as my anti phantom list in a tourney yesterday, it had a lot more trouble vs Rebels though, especially another Chewie list using Expose on Chewie

I think you are overestimating the Z's and undestimating being able to pump out 3 (or 4) hits pretty much every turn thanks to luke. Also Predator and Han have not much to do. You use predator when you have a decent roll (2/3) and use Han when not, they work well together.

- Han, VI, Luke, Chewie, MF title

- Blue squadron B-wing

- Airen Cracken

Drop Luke to a gunner and give Cracken ST?

I like...

Han + VI + EU + Gunner + MF Title

Airen Cracken + Wingman

Blue Squadron naked

If you can keep Airen near either ship, you can lose a stress token(if applicable). Then after Airen's attack, pass an action. Perhaps a boost or evade to Han, or an action to a now unstressed B after a K-turn.

Chewie, MF title, c3p0, gunner, predator. Stress free, doesn't mind spending an action doing something else, add engine upgrade for more mobility.

Han + PTL/predator+luke+3p0+title+EU

3x bandit

or maybe

chewie + gunner +3p0 + expert handling

4x bandit (better if there are still some tie swarms around) Or 2x blue w/ fcs (better if its mostly other falcon builds around)

I've been looking into working Lando and Cracken into a build together for action doubling. Something to the effect of:

Lando + Swarm Tactics + MF title + Gunner + Nien Numb

Cracken + Swarm Tactics

2x Tala

Chewbacca — YT-1300 42 Determination 1 Gunner 5 C-3PO 3 Millennium Falcon 1

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12

Bandit Squadron Pilot — Z-95 Headhunter 12

Gold Squadron Pilot — Y-Wing 18 Ion Cannon Turret 5 R2 Astromech 1

Ok - I have to ask - Determination on Chewie? WTF? Are you that worried about Brath/Saboteur/Proton Bombs?

Having Expert Handling, Falcon Title, and Engine Upgrade seems like way too much for the ship. That's 3 upgrades that require actions. Sure, they're all useful in different situations but 7 points is a lot to spend to have some options.

With regards to Z support, I can't recommend Talas enough. 1 point is a small price to pay to be less vulnerable to Predator and to move after and (more importantly) shoot before a larger percentage of ships. Zs die. They might as well get one last shot before they do.

The other day, I had a Tala with one hull take the last hull point off an HLC shuttle. If he had only been a bandit, the shuttle would have been able to fire the HLC one last time before he died, and very likely would've killed the Z. The best defense is a strong offense.

Certainly isnt the best, but ive been having a lot of fun with:

BlueBacca on Crack

Z-95 - AIREN CRACKEN

Assault Missiles

Munitions Failsafe

YT-1300 - CHEWBACCA

Veteran Instincts

Gunner

· Millennium Falcon

B-WING - BLUE SQUADRON PILOT

Advanced Sensors

Correction to myself: I Think I like this better:

Lando + Swarm Tactics + MF title + Nien Numb + Tactician

Cracken + Swarm Tactics + Hull Upgrade

2x Tala

Gives a little extra life to Cracken

I'm liking these Han builds.

However, I have a question for you guys. What would you use in lieu of C3P0? I know I could proxy the card, but for actual tournaments, I cannot. So I'm curious how you would use those 3 points elsewhere in these builds:

Hans Solo (46)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Gunner Luke (7)
C-3PO (3)
Millenium Falcon (1)
Hull Upgrade (3)

3x Tala Squadron Z-95s (39)

Tactician, Weapons Engineer, Navigator and Recon Spec. Recon Spec might be the best because it has the chance of turning your focus to an evade.

You could use the three points to swap the 3 Tala for 2 Rookie X wings. Has anyone looked at that comparison? Certainly the Talas have more hit points, but the X wings pump out more reliable damage.

I'm struggling to find a Rebel list that I like more than this one:

Han Solo - Veteran Instincts, Chewbacca, Navigator

Blue Sqdn - Heavy Laser Cannon

Bandit Sqdn - Assault Missile

Han will counter any Phantom builds that you might encounter. The Assault Missile forces the target priority up of the Bandit against anyone who needs to stay in formation (Howl Runner/Biggs based lists) and causes the enemy to shoot up a ship worth only 19 points as their first priority instead of Han. Han with PS11 can make full use of abusing Navigator to position himself at range 1-3 of targets whilst minimising return fire. The B-Wing is tough and the HLC makes it's damage output high so that it often does the heavy lifting, blasting stuff down that Han finishes off next turn with his precision strike.

Han Solo/YT-1300 (46)

- Marksmanship (3)

- Gunner (5)

- Mercenary Copilot (2)

- Millennium Falcon (1)

- Engine Upgrade (4)

Kyle Katarn/HWK-290 (21)

- Predator (3)

- Ion Cannon Turret (5)

- Recon Specialist (3)

- Moldy Crow (3)

- Engine Upgrade (4)

Keep them together. Kyle should be throwing a free token at Han when he needs it and ionizing anything they gets through Han's blaster fire.

That doesn't seem to be a very tough list. In fact most lists will have no problems with handling it. It lacks enough firepower to kill enemy ships faster than they can kill you. You have one ship putting out at most three points of damage and another that is putting out one point of damage. Best case scenario you're killing a TIE fighter a turn and that is unlikely.
