Storage Solutions

By KommanderKeldoth, in X-Wing

What is the absolute largest Plano product out there?

I'm talkin' 'That's no moon... That's a tacklebox!' proportions here.

Looking to store my Epic stuff with my extensive small/large ship collection

Depends on what your looking for (Tray dimensions or number of trays), but anything that carries the 3700 series trays are good may I suggest the Plano 1374 the 3750 trays allow for large and small ships, you get four of them and the top bulk storage can fit both epic ships. Plano 7771 is also excellent with the 3700 trays for small ships that aren't that tall (Tie Fighters, Bombers, Advanced, Interceptors, Phantoms, X/Y/A/E-wings also fit) and its bulk storage has alot of room as well.

If you haven't already I suggest using the search bar for this topic comes up very often and I've recommended the 1374 time and time again I have one for each faction. You can also see what others have recommended and compare.

Hope this helps...

Stay X-wing thirsty my friend

It even sounds like something that may have been built for the Imperial Navy.

The Hitachi Systainer System

Hitachi!

Yeah it does!

That Hitachi case looks to me like a laser printer... Nice case, better than the one I got which couldn't hold the Epic ships.

I use this http://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-Guide-Series-Drawer-Box/13283387

I have the transport and 3 large ships in the top (in their plastic trays). I don't know how well the corvette will fit, I don't own one, but I would have to move the large ships at least.

This is the one I own, the top compartment is a couple of inches too short unfortunately for the corvette, the only way to fit it would be to either (carefully) half the plastic it comes with or use foam,

I use a Plano 1374 tackle box and it holds my stuff pretty well. My four 3700-series interior trays (which are included) are set up for Rebels, Imperials, Tokens/Dice, and then upgrade cards and bases. The bulk storage up top holds my CR-90 and GR-75, with some cheap foam cut to size as an at-home project.

Normally I don't brag about my fleet size but if you're curious as to what it holds, I currently have: 6x TIE/F, 4x TIE/I, 4x TIE/B, 2xTIE/D, 2x TIE/P, 1x TIE/A, 2x Firespray, 1x Lambda, and on the Rebels: 4x X-wing, 3x Y-wing, 2x A-wing, 2x B-wing, 6x Z-95, 3x E-wing, 1x HWK, 1x YT-1300, along with 1x of CR-90 and GR-75, and there's still some room for expansion.

I am pretty sure the upcoming VT-49 will have to be stored in the bigger area up top, which will require some re-doing of my foam and probably storing the CR-90 on its side to open up space, but that should be doable.

Some older pics of my setup, before getting the CR-90 and Wave 4 ships:

This is exactly what I use.

I use a Plano 732, loads of space, fits everything that is currently out including the two big ships, it should hold the wave 5 no problem.

You seem to have the other Plano case (Don't know the model number) which is the same design, but smaller, and holds 3600 cases rather than 3700s. You can get more of the interior cases at a sporting goods store like Academy. For your case, look for 3600 series. Usually in the fishing area.

I PICK this one.

Because, Yuengling.

Any questions?

3600 series, got it. now i need to find something to put the foam in so my cat wont bite the foam. if the empire gets capital ships (which i have little doubt they will {please please please Interdictor Class} ;] ) i will probably cut some more foam.

The Plano 3650 is perfect for all the small based ship, except the Tie Defender.

The Plano 23630 works well for the Tie Defender, Rebel Transport, and all the medium based ship. It does require some modification to house the YT-1300.

The Plano 3730 works well to house the CR-90 and all the measuring devises except the range 5 ruler. It does require a little modification to house the CR-90 but the ship does fight perfectly.

The 23630 and 3650 come as part of tackle box kit available at some stores, but they can also be purchased separately through some websites. The 3730 can be purchased at various stores and online.

Just be careful as the plano 1374 no longer comes with the 3750 boxes, just the 3700. The 3700 won't fit the large ships or cards. At least from Amazon and anywhere else I've seen it recently.

i'm using the KR multicase boxes with custom foam. Having used them for all my other miniatures games, it seemed silly not to carry on. that way.

I also own the plano 1374, and I actually can fit 2 corvettes and one transport on the top compartment. I use some foam around them and on the bottom as well. I have all my upgrade cards in one tray, but if I buy a card holder and take them all off, i have an extra tray for future ships to come.

You can also fit another two 3700s in the top compartment of the 1374 if you choose.

The top works fine for the corvette if you put your own foam in there. I've done it here with this older video I made:

Wave 4 ended up fitting in here just fine.

I also use a plano 1374. I use some foam inserts that I cut out myself from some packing foam to protect my ships in the plastic trays, instead of letting them rattle around loose. So far, no damage whatsoever to any pieces, including those super-fragile laser cannons on the Xs and Bs. I do lose a little bit of space with the foam, but I have a decent-sized collection and haven't run out of space so far.

The plano 1374 is a nice way to store your game. Just don't get 9 interceptors (don't ask)...

I am moving out of my plano to battlefoam 720 on weds. Was completely undecided so got pluck foam... will probably upgrade to custom if releases ever slow down.

Just be careful as the plano 1374 no longer comes with the 3750 boxes, just the 3700. The 3700 won't fit the large ships or cards. At least from Amazon and anywhere else I've seen it recently.

Thanks for the heads up. I saw a couple 1374's at my local ****'s Sporting Goods, so I checked inside to see what boxes came with them. One had the 3700's, but the other had the elusive 3750's. I promptly bought it, even though I don't need it yet - everything I have currently fits in my red 5231 model, but I'm looking at making another big miniature market purchase this Christmas, so the 1374 will come in handy.

Side note for anyone interested: I was able to get them to price match the Wal-Mart website, which was an added bonus!

The hitachi systainer is actually made by festool. Sortimo makes a competitor to such, sold in the US by Bosch. http://www.boschtools.com/Latest/Pages/clickandgo.aspx

The biggest benefit is that they're completely expandable because they just snap together. Your wallet won't like you though.

I've been experimenting with the Bosch L-boxx's and they seem to work fairly well. The L-BOXX-1A stores pretty much all the non-ship items, but the depth is slightly smaller than the pilot card heights. I have a larger LBOXX-2 coming in later this week to fit all the non-ship items. I'll post a full write up once I get it all sorted out .
