Anyone ever do any crazy army building ?

I have been wanting to since I first got the core set way back in 2012 to build a full Imperial TIE wing of 72 fighters. (48 TIE Fighters, 12 Interceptors and 12 TIE Bombers or do a post ESB wing with 36 TF and 24 Interceptors and 12 Bombers) Along with 8 Lambda shuttles to round out a full ISD compliment with the current ships we have. Would still need Assault Gunboats, Sentinel Landing Craft, AT-AT Barges, Stormtrooper/Zero-G Trooper transports and Skipray Blastboats for a complete ISD loadout. Heres hopeing FFG gets around to making all those ships!

I also have the crazy idea of wanting to build the full 181st wing of 36 Interceptors. Then also a squadron (12) each of Phantoms, Defenders and the Advanced.

Then on the Rebel side just get a squadron each of the fighters, X/Y/A/B/E. A full Rebel fighter wing is 36 fighters, except on either Home One or the Independence. I don't remember which it was that had somewhere around 10 squadrons in their Wing.

Of course I haven't even gotten close to any of my goals. I only have one of each ship except for three TIE Fighters and three X-Wings from buying the core set and the single packs and the x-wing from the rebel transport.

So anyone else done anything crazy like that or planning to ?

I don't have any plans to ever even attempt to put even half that many ships in a battle. Would need half a basketball court to play on lol. It's one of those silly things I'd like to do but most likely won't. The cost alone would be insane. But if I did manage to do it. I would like to get a nice glass display case and set something up in there with a TIE Pilot helmet and a X-Wing Pilot helmet. Maybe even try to make a mock up of a Mon Cal Cruiser hanger and a Star Destroyer hanger and display them inside.

Agreed!! They would look mint on display (but be 99% impractical for the rest of the time-barring the odd crazy epic-on-steroids type games...

There was another post with pics of 2 massive fleets composed of full wings of fighters, but my search-fu is weak today. I would love a collection like you propose, but likely won't ever get to that point. Have to settle for a 4 ship flight of each (and maybe a full wing of TIEs & Headhunters) but it's getting harder to justify more ships without having had a chance to play anything more than 100pt deathmatches. But hey, never hurts to dream big, right?

I will most likely be having the post-ESB load out once I am caught up. Due to the fact that 12 starters + 12 tie expansions means 36 Tie Fighters. I'm already at the squint mark.
