Super Epic?

By Talisker55, in X-Wing

Basically I want to use everything I have in one huge game. Wondering how large of a space field I should use, and get estimates on the time commitment(and how many beers to have cold!)

I was able to come up with 2 1200 point teams:

Rebels:

CR-90

Transport

X-Wing x7

Y-Wing x5

A-Wing x5

B-Wing x4

HWK-290 x3

E-Wing x2

Z-95 x4

YT-1300 x2

Empire:

TIE x12

TIE/A x4

TIE/IN x10

Firespray 31 x3

TIE/B x6

Lambda x2

TIE/D x2

TIE/P x2

I was thinking 8'x8' and 10 hours, not including set up.

If/when you play this epic throw down post pictures!!!!!

this sounds awesome! good luck!

This NEEDS pics when it happens!

I will take plenty of pics, and I am aiming for next weekend. Will get all the ships and cards ready Wed-Thurs evening, and set-up Fri evening so Sat and possibly Sunday is the game.

Sounds fun!

It is a little depressing (but also a bit nice) realizing that I could field both lists by myself...

I would suggest leaving it no larger than 6x6. It's hard enough to reach across the table, but it's possible... Which means that pretty much reaching 3 feet is as far as you reasonably can do for X wing... Thus 6x6 to make sure you can reach the center.

And I believe I heard from some guy awhile ago who was versed in large scale games that 1hr/100 points is about a good estimate, so 12hrs or 24 beers (per person)... Given, the more beers you have, the slower the game will go.... While the point total will drop faster the higher the starting points, it still takes a long time to move each step. Especially if you're flying it as 12 individual ships instead of 1 squadron.

And I always suggest writing on a separate sheet of paper, by PS, all of the pilots. For example:

PS1
Academy 1

Academy 2

Academy 3

Prototype 1

Prototype 2

PS2

Scimitar 1

Scimitar 2

Rookie 1

Rookie 2

That way, when you're in the movement phase, you can quickly look at PS1, and it is in order (though each side can choose to move it in what ever order) and then once again, in the shooting phase, it's in order (well, sorta.. you have to start at the high PS categories, but are in order within the categories). And as a ship dies, cross it off the list so you know to skip over it.

It will depend on how many players you have on each side and if you be using lots of different ship loadouts. We recently played a 2300pts vs 2300 pts game with 8 players, on a 16x4ft board. We didnt use named pilots and all ships of the same type were identical with identical upgrades. As well as playing I acted as a GM controlling turn order ext. We got turns down to 45 minutes and we played the game for approx 6 hours.

I would go 3x6 and do not set up on the opposing short ends so there is 6' between you. You will spend a good chunk of time just moving ships and it will be about 5 turns until dice start rolling.

Hm, I'm guessing 8x8 would play itself out on the floor. But I agree with Khyros on the size for a different reason. I played my first epic game against a couple of friends the other weekend. It took us too long to even get into firing range, and we started 6 feet from eachother. I'd recommend 4x8, with set-up on the 8' sides.

But this sounds absolutely awesome. I wish I was your friend and could participate!!

Edit: Ninja'd! But, yeah, what AtomicFryingPan said.

Boltbrain, ...16x4... 2300 vs. 2300 ... dude!

A full report with pictures will be required.

I would play on a 5x7 table if you can.

Agreed, 8x8 play area will be a big pain in the ass for any ship(s) caught in the center, even for taller players. That ship can be 4 feet from any table edge and it will drag down the game. 4' deep should be sufficient with a full range 3 deployment zone on each side and will allow the battle to start sooner. As for Width, 6-8 feet should be more than enough. For larger games like this, I suggest using a Whiteboard to track damage of ships and keep PS order going. Also capping it to X rounds and either see where points lie or make a non-combative mission objective (controlling a space on the play area netting you X victory points, etc).

1 hour for 100 points or 1 and a half for slow ppl (so you have between 12 and 15 hours there , mate)

Thanks for all the input.

Was going to use a third table for all the cards, but I like the whiteboard idea.

Just got hit by a rare moment of inspiration, why not track everythiing in excel and eliminate the need for cards... Plus my handwritting is crap.

For the fighting surface, I will trim it down to 6'x4' so I do not have to find one of those WWII tank pusher things.

Thanks for all the input, and more please so I can make this run as smooth as possible.

in our game we used printed sheets to keep track of the damage, we counted unshielded crits as 2 damage.

Why do you own 4 Advances?

Why do you own 4 Advances?

Bought 2 when they came out, and 2 more as gifts.

Part of the reason I am doing this is to get to use everything, so the more the merrier!

I may pick up a few more ships before I do this. I do not like the ratio of ships, rebels 34 to Empire 41. Maybe an X, Y, A, 2B, and E. Then two more imp aces, 2 TIE D, 2 TIE P, and 4 more TIE. This is the plan, but the wife may have others...
