The only reasonable definitions of that term involve asking an extraordinary amount for a product, because there is no other means of getting it or because you need that item, and in some cases will quite literally die without it.Charging $25 for a bottle of water that costs $2 normally, in the aftermath of a disaster is an example of price gouging. Charging a fair price for a luxury item never is.so it is price gauging
So is it only "price gauging" if people are placed in a situation where they are forced to buy the overpriced product (like the poor guy above who couldn't live without BWings)?
Still, even in the case of luxury goods, while it may not be "price gauging" to overcharge for something, it's not very nice. If you have something other people want then the nice thing to do is sell it to them for as little as possible, surely? I'm not saying FFG do overprice, I'm just trying to steer the debate into a rights and wrongs of capitalism debate, cos that's what I do.
Yeah he is... ungrateful SOAB too!

being forced to buy something I don't want (even extra tokens I will never use) is price gouging
If you really think you don't have to buy stuff you don't want ask all the B wing pilots that have 3 shuttles.
I know what you are trying to say, but I think you could have chosen your words better. I'm a B-Wing fan, always have been, always will be. I have 3 of them now, I'll have 5 soon. I've flown BBB, and I've done it without 3 shuttles. I've considered buying a 3rd shuttle, but decided against it. I WANTED a 3rd advance sensors for a long time (before Wave 4), but I didn't buy that 3rd shuttle because I was never "Forced".
And if I had bought a 3rd shuttle? It would have been because I wanted to. Nobody forces anyone. You only buy what you WANT to buy.
I can honestly say that you can run a competitive build (maybe not the 100% best, but competitive) for under $50. 4 ships, that is all you need, at $12 a piece. I really don't understand why people think it is so crazy, but many, many people can get buy with this.
Honestly, Han Shoots first which is consistently said to be a great build no matter what, will cost you $54 on amazon, right now. (1 Falcon, 2 X-wing).
Bigger box, bigger model. No other reason.
Besides, what that thing can do, that we've seen so far, is totally worth the price.

You never thought that the big pile of ship numbers or lock on tokens were not a bit of a waste?

Read all the posts, or don't comment negatively
Price gouging was bought up by someone having a shot at GW
I simply said FFG are just as bad in their own way but that wasn't a big problem as everyone needs to make a profit

Once more, with feeling: you're focusing on the "have to buy" part, rather than the "if you want" part. There is no reason whatsoever that anyone needs three copies of Advanced Sensors, so simply not buying them was and is an option.
There are lots of viable B-wing builds without Advanced Sensors, and lots of viable Rebel builds without B-wings, so no one needs a 1:1 ratio between B-wings and Advanced Sensors.

What you want is a bit-by-bit menu option from FFG so you can buy exactly what you want with no extra anything. Fair enough.
I can think of a myriad of reasons why that is never going to happen. Most of those boil down to cost to FFG in making dozens of additional cardboard dies that FFG has to press separately, hiring people to sort these bits, and making dozens of additional packaging lines to package these bits and cards for distribution. For example, how much would you have to pay for a single shield token if you lost one? 5$, $7, $10 including shipping? I'd rather spring the extra few bucks and have another model with redundant pieces.
I think any money you would save by buying things a-la-carte would be eaten up in shipping and markup costs.
Personally, the only thing I wish they would sell separately are the pegs and bases. I have had a couple go bad on me and there is no way to replace them. I appreciate that I don't have to worry about losing a single token. I have scads.
I wont get into a big political or economic debate here, but keep in mind the profits FFG makes from selling us these luxury items, keeps a lot of game designers, artists, factory workers, and office drones employed, and thats not even getting into the retailers. Selling us these expansions for as little as possible would only hurt these people, and their company. why should they do that, so each of us can save a couple dollars per ship? At a certain point, is it still worth it to them to make these games? What if they invest in a new game and it fails, but they no longer have the profits from their successful titles to help keep them afloat, because they marketed the games a cheap as possible, now they can keep up with demand of x-wing, and loose players, sales stagnate and fall. No more x-wing, no more ffg. Just so you had a few dollars to spare for an extra bottle of soda at the game shop. You are a monster ;pThe only reasonable definitions of that term involve asking an extraordinary amount for a product, because there is no other means of getting it or because you need that item, and in some cases will quite literally die without it.Charging $25 for a bottle of water that costs $2 normally, in the aftermath of a disaster is an example of price gouging. GW is more upfront cost so suits large buyers
FFG more bit at a time
I said all along they both have their systems and thats fine but doesn't mean FFG is any better or worst
If you want three Adv Sensors you HAVE to buy three shuttles (before E Wing) if you don't want shuttles it is a waste
But you don't need 3 Adv Sensors, which is the fundamental flaw in your logic. Also in a completely non-GW type move, FFG put the Adv Sen in the E-Wing pack, making it even easier for people to get that upgrade.
FFG is actually quite consumer friendly by taking a popular item like that, and offering it in a another even cheaper package. Just like they put 2 PtL cards in the Imperial Aces pack. They've actually established a pattern of taking popular upgrade cards and putting them in more then one expansion pack.
In other words:
A guy Wants to own a sports car that goes at least 250 mph.
In order to do so he Needs to buy one of the fastest cars in the world.
But at no point does he Need to own a sports car that goes at least 250 mph.

Not only that, but they put it in a ship belonging to the other faction too, meaning you don't need to buy both.
Oh let's be serious now, the Falcon is just about all anyone needs to lay waste to things.

No one is whining we are simply saying that FFG are as cynical as GW with there pricing. Grow up and stop flaming

I think the most cheap builds are either Tie swarm (sharing cores), 3 firesprays, or 4 Xwing, because of the lack of upgrades.

And we are saying you're wrong, and have pointed out several times why you are. You just seem to keep ignoring them.
After doing some research on the price of games and other products in this country, I have come to the same conclusion.
After all what price can you put on hours and hours of enjoyment.
GW don't charge for cards that you NEED at a tournament. The equivalent of GW would be getting a page of your army book with another armies models.
Your GW remark is fundermentally wrong.
GW don't charge for cards that you NEED at a tournament.
No they charge $50 for a codex that is separate from the models you buy, oh and one that is updated every few years so you have to buy it again. Lets not forget the cost of the rule book on top of that.
Yeah that's so much better then FFG's way... Where you have the option of buying expansions that have models and everything else in them which includes upgrades that you might find useful for other lists.
Oh and they also include those upgrades in other packages as well, so you have more then one package that has the upgrade you want.
Edited by VanorDMThe individual model count is a lot more expensive than GW your paying that in the model cost, I don't need two codex if I want to use a unit twice.
I wonder if it's got a little to do with the GW model of prices based on in game cost, high points value means less sold so higher price.
TIE Fighter = 12-18 points = $15
X-wing = 21 to 29 points = $15
TIE Defender = 30 to 37 points = $15
E-wing = 27 to 35 points = $15
So, uhm... No?
