List Feed back

By Moe718, in X-Wing

Im looking for some feed back on a list I plan on working on. Good/bad/other all welcomed. So here it is

Soontir Fel

- PTL

- T/C

Rexler

- Ion Pulse Missle

- Predator

- Munitions Failsafe

Royal Guard

- V/I

The purpose is to make the opponent choose who to go after Fel or Rexler. Hoping the other 2 ships can get in behind them and clean house. Was thinking about changing Rexler to HLC over the missles but that might put to much of a target on him. Any thoughts?

I think Rexler already has too many upgrades on him--he's the obvious target. The main problem, though, is fragility. If you have good rolls, you'll slaughter. If you have bad rolls, your ships are going down quick. As for giving Rexler the HLC: I recommend you do it. Yes, ion tokens are nice. However, in a three-ship list, you really need to focus on damage output as much as possible, and an HLC does a much better job of that than the missiles.

The concept is good, but it might need some fine-tuning.

thanks for the advise

Hi there Moe,

I have played a similar list many times to good effect, and while I'm not sure I'd take it to a tournament, it is good fun for casual play. The issue as Ailowynn pointed out is the bullseye on Rexler's back. In order to keep your opponent off balance as to whom to concentrate fire on, you can do a couple of things. You can create a greater/equal threat or two to keep your opponents attention on keeping his ships alive instead of focus firing. You can also fly the interceptors in such a way as to not allow focus firing on them. You'd be surprised how many players will split fire for a chance at killing Fel or Jax. And while you wouldn't expect it, Rexler can be pretty nimble as well. So here is a suggestion you can try out that sacrifices a bit of your original idea for more threat.

Rexler Brath with Predator - 40

Soontir Fel with Push the Limit - 30

Carnor Jax with Push the Limit - 29

99 points total

So keep everyone separated, take opportunity shots and force them to focus on Rexler (who can take quite a bit of punishment, actually) and use Jax to gimp the opposition whilst Fel and Brath lay waste. Remember to save the focus on Rexler for his ability only if you stand a reasonable chance of getting through to hull, otherwise just take the hits. Good Luck! And let us know how you do!

Futant,

I ran the list that you suggested to day. Not to good 1-2. First round lost to a modified version of Biggs walks the dogs (Biggs,Wedge, and 2 Blues). Most lost this one to the dice gods not liking me today. Rd2 was a triple phantom build with Doom shuttle. The int did extremely well against the phantoms (not to sure if it was poor judgement on his flying or just good flying on my part). And final rd was a Han shoot first list with wedge + swarm tactics and rookie. The defender did very well against the falcon for most part but I could not finish it off before wedge and the rookie cleared my squad (and yes Int suck against Falcons).

I like the build but need some tweaking and practice. The Defender was really nice and his ability was fun to use. But I think he need more help then a few Int.

Thanks for the report. It's always enlightening to hear others experience with a build you are familiar with. Hope you can find the tweak that it needs to better fit your playstyle.

If you are planning on taking Soontir with a targetting Computer, I think that Colonel Vessery would be a better match. Soontir tag the ship, Vessery shoot it with his HLC.

Soontir Fel + PtL + TC

Colonel Vessery + HLC

it leaves you with 26pts.

-You could take a Royal Guard with PtL and give VI or Adrenaline Rush to Vessery

-You could take 2 Academy Pilot, or a Saber Squadron Pilot with PtL, and give decoy to Vessery, allowing him to switch his PS with Fel for shooting, so he benifit from the TL and then Fel can also use it for his attack. Remember though that Decoy has a range of 2, so if they don't fly close, it will be useless.

-You could take Lorrir and give a Hull Upgrade or Stealth Device to Fel.

That will leave you with either 3 ship shooting at 3-3-4 attack or 4 ship shooting at 3-4-2-2 attack

I did notice one thing while I was playing (besides the fact that most of my area likes the rebels). That most of the rebel squads that I faced or watch is that they all need to be in a formation or close enough to activate pilot abilities. Not sure how the meta is else where. So should I start loading up assault missles and switch out the Int for maybe advance?
