FFG, I'd Buy Any Holder for Upgrade Cards that you Make!

By Azul, in X-Wing

On the off chance that FFG actually reads their own forums... could we please get some decent storage for those darn upgrade cards. I've got them in a regular sized card box right now and it's not that great a way. Make some official binder pages or a nice acrylic box and I'd be all over that.

Preach on brother!!!! (or sister, as the case may be)

I, too, would be in the market.

It would need to be big. My upgrade cards currently occupy 18 of the 40 pages of my Ultra Pro card folder. They'll be getting their own folder soon since my ships take up 18 pages, the rules cards 1 page and alt art cards another page.

Try using side-loading 9-card binder pages

  1. If your mini cards are sleeved they should stay put.
  2. If they don't stay in, you can put a spare playing card behind the mini cards (or if you don't have a spare playing cards, one of those rules cards, like Ion or Engine Boost, I have 1000 of them.)
  3. And if that still doesn't work, you can try using a Food Saver and dividing the pockets in half. Someone mentioned they were going to try that, but I still haven't seen any pics.

You know the baggies that your tokens come in? I have my upgrade cards in those broken down by type then each of those bags fits perfectly in a 200 card box (like for Magic).

10 slot business card pages will work. They[the cards] slide around a little bit, but none of mine have fallen out yet...

Tuck boxes are very cool, I use them for another game.. but the time putting them together can be.... daunting.. lol.. thanks for the link, I may well be diving back into those... just need to make sure I have enough card stock.. and ink for the printer...

I found some industrial strength double sided tape called Ranger Wonder Tape from a local craft shop, and it really cuts down on the time required to assemble the tuck boxes. It was around the scrapbooking section. A bunch of companies make something similar.

I have a cheap parts organizer that currently holds Tokens, Asteroids, Dice, upgrade cards and a damage deck. I use the same system at the moment for the rest of my collection, which netted me the large cup needed for storing more cards in one. For $3.99 You get 12 of the small cups and 3 of the Medium. For another $7.99 you get 8 Large, 8 Small, 4 Medium. Not perfect for everyone but works for me and gives me room to expand for a bit as I can move the asteroids to my main minis case or in with the dice, move the damage deck to where they are, and have plenty of room for more upgrades (and to be honest, I probably have room for Wave 5 and the couple Rebel Aces I plan to pick up before I even have to worry about that).

Yeah, I'm starting to accumulate tons of upgrade cards. Been putting them into a stack for now, but the stack's going to become too tall to stay up very soon.

I used regular 9 card pocket sheets, and put two to a slot for the upgrades. I sleeved the upgrade cards, and the static is enough to hold them in place. Not had any fall out yet, and even if they did, my binder zips up, so they wouldn't be lost. I generally have at least two of each card, so getting them out isn't difficult.

Makes finding stuff a breeze.

I use these these 20-pocket pages. The cards are a bit bigger so the top row comes out of the page a little, but they are sturdy enough to hold 5+ copies of each card and searching for upgrades is now *a lot* faster.

With my collection i'm somewhere between 200-250 upgrade cards. I've gone through 4 packs of 50 clear sleeves for the cards, but I only have two to three pages left in my mini-pro card case that, hopefully, the next 50 will cover.

I made my own foamcore box. This is the first prototype. If I need bigger, I'll come up with another solution. Still needs hinges, and colorful printed stickers. This is for storing, not necessarily for transporation - I'll make smallish squad boxes with everything you need for 1 game later.

Where in the world did you find that perfect upgrade card binder (the yellow one)? I've found the companies website via Google but they don't have interior pictures of their binders and they all seem to be the larger card binder. I'd love pic up one or two if you have a link.

One of our local X-Wingers 3d printed a custom holder at the local library.

This is what I use.

It think it is the same as the other two binders and just looks like it fits upgrade cards. It is hard to tell, but it just looks like two cards turned sideways in your standard sized slot for Magic cards.

FFG really need to get on this. There is money to be made, not just from X-Wing, but board games that use the mini US sized cards.

At a minimum, all they'd need to make is the actual card holder pages... then people could put them into any ring-binder they want to use. In that way, they could produce holders for different sized cards and sell the ring-binders separately with different covers and designs.

Yep what giraffeandzebra said.

Standard card box, 550 count works good for now. Sheet of plastic card, can get it at most hobby supply stores as a stack of 10 or so. Take plastic card and cut it in such a way as to divide the standard card box in two down its longest length. Now you have a box for holding your upgrade cards. if you want to get fancy you can cut some of the plastic card to catch your center divide creating a t shape. This piece should be left so it can slide back and forth to allow for the addition of new cards.
