I've been thinking it'd be fun to do thematic games.

This could be fun. Not sure if it needs any specific scenario rules, just a themed dogfight/furball.

You will need a scenario. The rebels weren't after a dog fight they were after the death star.

I don't see why he needs a scenario (given i can't see the lists right now).

Those definitely could be used without a scenario, although i think it would be more fun to have one.
