Tactician and Gunner

By JagerBombsAway, in X-Wing

Gunner allows you to perform a second primary attack if you miss the first. Tactician allows you to add stress at range 2 (w/in your firing arc) after an attack. So if, for instance, an Outer Rim Smuggler has both, attacks and misses the first attack at range 2 w/in the firing arc and makes the second Gunner attack, the target ship receives 2 Stress Tokens?

Sounds good if correct.

Correct

Correct--although easier said than done.

AND you deal one stress token per tactician. The new Decimator is the first ship with 3 crew slots. Put in 2 tacticians and a gunner. First attack, 2 stress, it misses. Second attack, 2 more stress.

Edit: I don't recommend this on a Decimator, because to use it you always have to have a shot at range 2 in your firing arc, thus losing the benefit of your turret. Just saying that its possible.

...That's moderately disgusting. Especially since you don't actually have to hit.

Consider it a tactical thing

I think your wording is a little off on this, "you" sounds like you are referring to the person using tactician. I assume you mean "and you give the ship you are attacking 1 stress per tactician" correct?

I've used this on a shuttle.

Adv sensors, gunner, tactician and engine upgrade.

Felt rather sorry for my opponent as he had corran horn with 2 stress, Blount with 2 stress and a bandit with 3 stress at one point in the game (id used 2 shuttles and a ps1 defender)

haha yes, thanks for the catch. Correcting.

Also, I want people to know I don't encourage this strategy. Tactician only works in your firing arc at range 2, therefore putting them on a Decimator is severely limiting that turret weapon. If you spent that many points on upgrades, you want to use them, and by doing so you are robbing yourself of your positioning advantage.

Just mentioning that its technically possible...

Here's the picture of what I posted about earlier. I felt rather sorry for my opponent, but he did manage to park Corran Horn on an asteroid at range 2 from one of my shuttles...

Easier to do with Han - you can purposefully roll a bad roll first attack.

As a potential opponent, let me say PLEASE invest 7+ points in your list and focus your strategy around not dealing me damage. Please?

Sure thing. Enjoy no actions for a few turns while the heavy hitter in the list destroys you.

Or say you accidentally try a red move. One of my opponents last night was kind enough to do that near a board edge. Dutch decided to go on a beer run and leave the pair of Reds all alone.

I want to try it on an ORS. His attack dice suck anyway, he's cheap* to begin with, and he has a decent chance of having multiple enemies in range 2 as he's blocking the first wave.

* although significantly less so once strapped with Tactician, Gunner, and AP Lasers

having 2 stress is rather not nice. You either perform a easy to predict green move and have no action, followed by another easy to predict green move and an action. Or you perform a white move, and are in the same position.

I'm not talking about trying to miss, but I was often rolling either 3 dice with a focus, or just 3 dice, as I had boosted. Vs agi 3 ships, if you got 1 hit, chances are they would end up dodging it, either way they are gonna be stressed next turn. I also rolled blanks and a focus several times too, I guess this was one time I wanted bad dice rolling, at least on my first shot.

Question: Does a Firespray with Tactician get the benefit from both its firing arcs?

I believe it does. Also, I just realized the double/triple tactician is already possible on the Tantive. Load up those Quad Turbolasers, and 2 Tacticians. or three with the Tantive IV title. Each of those has a Gunner-style effect if you miss. AND you could make up to three of those attacks per turn, and the tacticians don't use up energy or actions. So, you can make attacks that deal triple stress multiple times.
