Phantom movement question

By RookieOne, in X-Wing

Hi guys, my apologies if there's an obvious answer to the this question my friend and I are still getting to grips with all the rules (One of the best miniature games i've played!).

I was reading this article about the Phantom

And in the diagram, the banking template is on the side of the ship. My question is, I was lead to believe that the bank maneuver was done from the front of the ship, so is this specific to the Phantoms movement?

Many thanks

The side maneuver is a barrel roll. See the instructions on the decloak reference card:

To answer your question, yes and no. It's limited to ships with the barrel roll action, but the Phantom barrel rolls a little differently, as noted above.

Thank you, neither of us have a phantom yet but I wanted to ask in case our general gameplay was out of alignment. That does make sense. Thank you Wonderwaaaagh, your help has been greatly appreciated!

In fact, even a normal phantom can't do this - one of the specific phantom pilots (Echo) uses a bank rather than a straight for his barrel roll on decloaking. There's a TIE interceptor pilot (Lt. Lorrir from the Imperial Aces pack) who can do the same - use a '1' bank for a barrel roll, but again that's a specific pilot ability, not a standard ability of a ship:
