The truth about the Empire and terrorist scum

By Gosric, in X-Wing

The Third Reich had a lot going for it too, but I don't think any amount of historical revisionism is going to retcon its legacy.

Edit: Godwin's law fulfilled on post #2.

9: They actually did needlessly kill aliens. See: Genocide of Dac.

Caveat: However, as presented in the films, The Empire had no real issues with aliens. To further this point, we don't actually know who was under the helmets of Imperial troops. Could have been many a Zabrak, Chiss, and so on. Entirely unlikely, yes. But when we just look at the films, we can't know for sure.

7: Half truths here, but a very good point about The Republic. Can't deny that.

6: Can't deny this either. However, democracy is a far better option than Tyranny. Even if it is more efficient in some ways.

5: False. The Rebellion was unpopular until the Battle of Yavin. After that, their recruitment soared, and The Rebellion used Alderaan and its destruction as a rallying cry. Had the destruction of Alderaan never happened, The Rebellion would have died out. This much is certain.

4: True. If we're just looking at this from a film standpoint, there's really nothing false about this one. The Emperor on the other hand...

3: Half truths. Overly powerful weapons are not meant to fight insurgents. See: Drone strikes. It ain't doin' nothin' but fueling more war. However, The Empire did very specifically target The Rebellion. They could have done so very effectively, and they would have won if they did not create weapons of terror, such as The Death Star.

2: Okay, I agree with this 100% Seriously, screw the Jedi. They were just as manipulative and selfish as The Sith. The Galaxy would be a hundred times better off without Jedi or Sith. Fortunately in the EU, Luke's Jedi order is much better. So there's that at least. But yes, Screw The Jedi.

1: Boy do I hate the Vong... But... The Empire would have Obliterated them. Completely. So I'll give them that for sure.

The Empire's primary failing was its leader. If not for The Emperor, it would have been significantly better off. But again, he is the one behind those fortyish years of conflict, from TPM to RoTJ. The galaxy would have been such a better place if he died earlier. **** you, Anakin!

That's more of a political consideration than a tactical one. Any amount of meddling that we do in the Middle East is going to be held against us, but limiting our actions to precision attacks is a better way of combating insurgents than most. All that time I spent patrolling the streets of Baghdad during the surge doesn't seem to have done much for the long term stability of Iraq, has it? Either way, I'm not sure I'd classify drone strikes as "overly powerful." They're certainly not on the level of a MOAB.

We advocate the same thing. Small strike teams, special operations. You can't fight insurgents with bombs, not effectively.

Only way to stop insurgents is to wipe out the population they hide in, burn everything and salt the ground that's what the Romans did.

Well that got serious very quickly *L*

Or we could cut our dependency on fossil fuels and stay out of the Middle East. You know, either way.

Too late for that sadly, thanks to W the cans opened and been spilt all over the place.

Alright alright, back to Star Wars.
