What is the tankiest ship possible in X-Wing?

By horsepire, in X-Wing

Just for fun, let's try and build the tankiest ship possible in X-Wing. By "tanky," for those unfamiliar with the term, I mean the ability to take as much punishment as possible.

I'll start:

Chewbacca (42) + Push the Limit (3) + Jan Ors (2) + C3PO (3) + Millennium Falcon (1) + Hull Upgrade (3).

Total: 54 pts

Good luck killing this thing! With Jan, PTL, and the MF title, Chewie can produce two evade tokens per round (evade action + focus action, which Jan converts to an evade). C-3PO effectively produces a third evade token (not exactly, but close enough).

Even when (or maybe if) you start landing hits, you've got to go through 5 shields, and once you get through, you have to go through 9 hull - without criticals.

And the best part is, it's only 54 points...not that expensive.

What do you think? Can we do better?

Tarn + R7 + hull / shield used upgrade

I think Lando crew could be better. It's a gamble for sure, but he can yield between 0-2 evades each action. With title and PTL, that could yield 3 evade tokens per round plus 3POs free guess is potentially 4 evades/round.

Jan Ors crew only works on friendly ships, not the ship she is on.

Do you mean the toughest ship in the game without regard for point cost, then? The TIE bomber is pretty much always going to be the toughest compared to points spent.

Oh dang, you're right. Good catch!

So I guess we switch over to the Lando/3PO combo...

That's actually debatable, and has been debated a few times on the rules form, with no official word, or even really a agreement on if it's allowed or not.

The rules don't say one way or the other if a ship is in range X of itself or not.

We could go a number of different ways with this, but I intended either tankiest ship, irregardless of cost, or tankiest list in general.

Though of course it's hard to have much discussion on the latter. Four OGPs and a Scimitar, anyone? Haha.

R2d2 crew with c3po means that once you lose your shields, you can restore it (at a cost) for no action, c3po can be used for an evade, and the title allows you an evade token, allowing for 3 hits canceled each turn mid/late game. Its actually more effective than it sounds on paper, if you have boost and ptl to arc doge.

R2D2 crew on Chewy is a little dangerous. Suddenly, Chewy can have crits put on him by the R2D2 repair action. I'm not sure I'd want to do that...

its like jek + elusiveness!

Boba/Kath Firespray + Recon Specialist + Shield Upgrade + PTL

11 hit points with 2 agility, and everytime you ptl you can have an evade and 2 focus for defense.

Can you use the R2-D2 crew card if you have 0 shields and 0 face down damage cards? It seems like you should be able to since the constraint is "If you have no shields" and the only thing that occurs would be to recover a shield and roll an attack die.

GR-75, Combat Retrofit, Chewbacca, Repair Droid, Backup Shield Generator, Expanded Cargo Hold, Tibanna Gas Supplies, Bright Hope

59 points of regenerating, ramming goodness. All the tankiness in the world won't save you if you miscalculate and get rammed.

Alternatively, navigator to help with ramming or staying head on to get the most out of title.

Navigator (along with Luke and Gunner) isn't tournament legal on huge ships though.

Properly kitted Firespray or E-wing. Chewie too.

Chewbacca, PtL, Lando, C3P0, Hull Upgrade, Falcon Title

55 points of OK offense with awesome staying power. Potentially 4 evade tokens a turn and highly resistant to crits... and 14 health to chew through.

Or, instead of PtL and the title, elusiveness might find a home here.

Edit: I think the above wins, but a potential, as Turin said, is:

GR-75 w/ WED-15, Chewbacca, and Quantum Storm*, Tibanna gas.. You heal 4HP a turn (+2 when you spend Chewbacca, +3 when you spend the gas).

I think the Chewie Falcon is a bit more sustainable though, since it has offense, more health, and it's harder to put the damage on him in the first place over the transport.

*I discounted the Bright Hope title since the second your opponent sees that they'll just come from the side and have their choice of which base to shoot at anyway.

I still like Determination on Chewie, I know its not often relevant, but darned if isn't soul crushing when it triggers.

For a small ship an E-wing w/ Ethan + R2-D2, Sensor Jammer, SU, and PTL for a cool 47 points.

PTL and focus/evade, Jam them, repair a shield with R2. Repeat.

And you got 3 agility dice.
