EPIC: Three & Six Ship Squadrons, Are you Going For It?

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

How many of you Epic-Wingers are collecting larger three to six ship squadrons for X-Wing EPIC?

Which ship types are on your priority list?

I've got four of most ships, but have decided that six would be more flexible in Epic scale play. I'll be picking up some extras over time to beef up the forces.

I hope to eventually have 3 of all small ships, at a minimum. Except the HWK.

I don't see myself fielding a 6 ship formation of defenders ever.. 3 ship, yes.

Xwings, Z95s... 5-6 ship for epic play would be fun.

I have 4 of most ships, other then the HWK, and Advanced.

I have 6 X-Wings, mostly because 1 came with the Transport, and 5 of a ship is simply wrong.

I have 6 Interceptors because I had 4 already when I got Imp Aces.

I'll have 6 A-Wings and B-Wings when Rebel Aces comes out.

I'm considering picking up 2 more Y-Wings, and maybe 1 more each of the E, Defender and Phantom, maybe 2 more Z's. But that all depends on how popular Epic becomes where I play.

I currently am sitting at 6 X wings, 5 Y wings, 4 A wings and 4 B wings... I plan on picking up two rebel aces, to put my at 6 A and B wings... I might just have to get a 6th Y wing (or wait until Rebel Aces 2 comes out) to round out the half squadrons of everything... Herm... I need to update my signature...

Cool collections guys. I buy three of everything for obvious reasons, but I am getting six packs only for the best ships.

I field 2 y-wings to escort the cr-90 and transport

I have a formation of 5 x-wings (painted green) usually flanked by 2 e-wings that fly in loose formation with the x's.

The 2 a-wings fly solo and dart around the board providing reinforcements to firefights.

The YT-1300 either fly's with the corvette or the x's

The hawk either provides focus tokens to the 'vette or the x's.

The b-wing... does whatever a b-wing does. Currently that is either join my teammates list or sit in a box at home.

Not bad at all, but B-Wings are great as escorts in Epic.

I find y-wings to be able to do the job better. Ion turret, giving corvette free target locks with dutch, having a turret so you can evade being run over while continusly firing... Maybe its just me.

I find b-wings die too quickly in our games.

I played 40k for far too long to approach any game as "Get three (Six!?!) of everything." That's such an alien concept to me.*

That said team epic is by far my favourite format.. but I build the lists first online, tinker with it for a couple days, and then go buy what I need to fill out that list. As a result my rebel collection is exactly what I need for my epic list. (My imperial list will get the same treatment once their huges are announced.)

*Imperial Guard aside. You can't convince me 7 Vendettas isn't necessary to life.

Oh, I have a question!

Do you guys bring large ships into epic play? And if you do, why?

Like, for what purpose, how is it kitted out, and how will it compair to the huge ships out there?

I have WAAAY to many ships (for standard small games anyway), I'm really hoping epic's gunna make me look slightly more sane (**** my OCD-or as I saw on the forum somewhere CDO-kudos to the originator of that one...;-) so yeah I'm definitely in the "larger ship squadron" group....

And selecting ships has gone out the window (I want EVERYTHING!)

At least I haven't gone totally mad buying an entire sabre squadron....! (Yep I know someone who has...)

Unless an AMAZING imperial huge ship lands I much prefer the idea of swarming the huge ships with loads of fighters... (I'm all about the charge of the light brigade - go down blazin' boys;-)

What is the ship count then?

6 of everything small (ok 12 of the cannon fodder boys - zeds & ties...)

Yeah man the beloved Y-Wing is so bad ass, if you use them in the right way. They suck in 100 point three ship dogfights because that limited version of the game forces them to act against their purpose.

This is part of the reason why I feel that Epic play is the best representation of Star Wars Battles.

:)

Three to six Y-Wings guarding a Huge ship is just great. I think B-Wings are awesome too in that role, but they have their own flavor of course.

That-a-boy!

:)

Yeah I am going that way on most ships too. The super ships like E-Wings and Defenders say, I am good with three. Six X-Wings, Y-Wings and so forth is a good deal.

For Z's & T's I need twelve.

All day.

Ahh the Y-wing! Probably my favourite rebel ship (I'm a Brit-we always support the underdog!)

Not played them in epic format yet but seems like the tougher ships'll be well suited to defending the huge ships (fancy an A-wing defensive escort for your huge ships? No thanks. But as part of the attacking force? Hell yeah!)

Yeah has to be done. A full squadron of ties...? YES PLEASE!

They look too good en masse- I'm just weak...

Same here. I look at the ship types as my various troop types.

So a trio of Phantoms are kind of like a five man squad of Assault troops with bikes or jump-packs.

A trio of Defenders are a five man Terminator squad.

Six Interceptors are a ten man assault squad.

Twelve TIE Fighters are two ten man Tactical squads.

The Decimator will make for a nice Dreadnought.

And the glorious Vigil will of course be a MF'n Land Raider pimped out unreasonable like!!!

Not my fault to be fair-played a kick-ass large scale game not long after I first started, I had a full squadron of ties, 6 interceptors and 6 bombers vs falcon, 6 X-wings, 6 A-wings and 6 B-wings. Was AWESOME. After I sent the whole tie squadron after the falcon & X-wings and watched them do the job in a very "charge of the light brigade" way I was smitten. I had to have a full squadron, even if I don't get to field it too often....

To be fair a formation of 4-6 of any of the ships look sweeeeeeeeet....

Now that is a lot of ships!

Do you have 6 advance's? And if you do, I can see having 6 of them flying as a squadron actually being effective based on the amount of fire required to kill them.

Lol yeah I see it!

I was the same in 40k - tried to build armies in platoons, companies or whatever the standard structure for that race was. They always look so much better in proper formations....

I do indeed have 6 advanced's. The problem still remains (they suck for the points) so the equivalent rebels points will still win...
