Micro Machine Scale Comparison

By Feedil, in X-Wing

Not sure if this topic has been brought up before, but while I was looking through some of my old Star Wars toys, I noticed some of the Micro Machine figures were close in scale with X-Wing tmg.

Just thought I'd share.

So this is something we have discussed in my local area more then once and here is what we concluded...

Unlike other miniatures games like 40K, Warhammer, etc. you really can't proxy ships for X-Wing. An X-Wing can not sub for a Z-95, a TIE Fighter for a Phantom. Cards can be proxied pretty easy, sure, print out the picture off of a website. However, If you go to an official tournament, you need the genuine cards. So be warned not to take them to official events.

But with ships you need not only the model itself, but the dial and ship cards as well. Without the dial, the idea of proxy-ing ships is just pointless. I guess you could print off makeshift dials as well but in the end I prefer the correct ships and the correct cards. They are inexpensive for the most part (some folks have a good argument for the epic ships with standard cards in them, but....) and you will have less problems flying them at tournaments with the genuine article.

My two cents worth...

I guess the xwings etc are pretty close, but then you should see the micro machine slave 1 etc

It's funny, I used to think keeping the Micro Machines would be nice as a collector, but after collecting X-wing minis I just want to turn my old Micro Machines into debris/asteroids. I always thought the scale was pretty negligible between them, especially if you break pieces off.

BTW, there is another thread about this: http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/110030-x-wing-mini-alternatescustoms/

I personally have the MM Tie Bomber, Tie Advanced, two cruise locked X-wings, and a battle damaged S-foil locked X-wing which would be perfect for that. Also have a cloud car and AT-ST which could be useful.

Also, no, you really can't proxy due to maneuver dials.

As for maneuver dials, litko makes generic dials, just keep a maneuver reference next to it so you don't make a move that ship can't do.

Breaking them into debris is actually a pretty decent idea.

I'm particularly excited about the accuracy of the AT-ST scale. I might have dig for all my Micro Machines and see if I can find my others. I think it would awesome to play some custom scenarios with them. Either fending off a ground assault with an X-Wing, or making bombing runs against them could be a lot of fun.

I'm still trying to find my old box of micro machines from my parents. I think I had every model they had, plus a ton of their action fleet stuff and some of their other product lines, like titanium and x-ray.

I knew the ffg models where nice. But dang. It's like night and day between them and the micro machines. Kudos ffg

I think you could still play with the ships if you have them though. Unlike other wargames, you don't actually need the ships at all in order to play. You just need the plastic base and the piece of cardboard that fits into it (how fun would that be?). I'd get a little laugh if a player came in with all the legit game pieces but had a plastic stand glued to the bottom of a Micro Machine model.

Well, you need the bases and ship cards, but you also need the needed dials to truly play the game. I think after all the work you would go through, printing up the ship cards, base cards, counterfeiting a dial... wouldn't it just be easier to get the real deal?

I would like to see the Phantom/Attack Shuttle comparison. I'm reluctant to buy the MM version until I actually buy my Ghost expansion.
