Ouch, $40 for an entry fee for a regional...unless there are extra prizes being given out like candy at Halloween, that is highway robbery. Heck I think events costing $15 are steep, but I guess if people are willing to pay that much then that is their problem. Will the Christ Church Regional even have enough people to be statistically significant?!?

A few things you should know.

The tournament kits are not free - they cost us in NZ about $180 USD after import duty and shipping.

The Auckland regional event cost $20 to enter (NZD)

We gave away a Tantive IV as a spot prize rrp $150nz here, a rebel freighter rrp $80nz, a lambda shuttle rrp $45 a set of GF9 asteroids rrp $40 and 4 small ships each comming in at an rrp of $25nzd locally.

These prizes were split between 18 players - while I can not speak for the prizes at christchurch I can tell you that the prize support at Wellington will be similar.

Please understand that venue hire is not always free either as these events are not hosted in a store in NZ.

So, the answer to my question about lots of give-aways, is yes. The possibility of door-prizes, the extra shipping costs for prizes and ships, and the fact that the site is rented makes the cost understandable. I am just spoiled with the $5-15 entry fees I see locally in the southeastern US, I did pay $20 to play in one local Store Championship, but half of that was an entry fee for the Con it was held at.

I am glad to know that there are X-Wing players willing and able to play in any of the tournaments world-wide!

$20 NZD is about $15 US so actually we are not that far off for most of our events. Unfortunatly Christchurch has been hit by quite a few earth quakes over the last few years which have damaged many of the good venues so now what is availible is very expensive hence the $40 NZD entry fee for the Christchurch regional event.

I am not sure what the level of prize support is like where you are but from the sound of it perhaps we are fortunate to be able to hand out a little more? As you say however we are very fortunate to get to have our own regional and national events especially for such a small country population wise (less than 5 million people) even if we are spread out over a large area ;)

By the way - if you have ever seen the last samurai or lord of the rings / the hobbit then you have seen what our country looks like through movies :)

Okay so. What is this new insistence on Roark with blaster turret and moldy crow over the ion cannon?

Can some explain this?

My guess is that it is because it gives the Hawk, and the lists therein, some extra punch in general and shots on a phantom that gets too close, which the ion does, too, but there seem to be smaller builds overall and so having a ship that isn't going to do much damage is tough.

Nice, someone took that Boba + Echo list! It's a blast if you haven't tried it.

I also like the Bomber swarm, very cool.

Really like the Boba+Echo list and glad to see it perform well. Only issue is that it can be streaky depending on your dice (on the defense side) with only 14 HP on the board.

That's a lot of Falcons at the top! Also, one Echo in Top 8 and not a Whisper in sight? And 4 Ship Rebel builds??? Crazy! :)

Canadian Nationals was an absolute blast. Many thanks to the group for stores in the Southern Ontario region for hosting.

Final table was recorded by us over at Monday Night X-Wing (MNX). Will be posted to our YouTube channel in coming weeks after editing and commentary.

How did dual Falcons beat 36 hit points of Blues and Bandit?? Tune in to find out! :P

Well what a day to be sure, great matches great players! Congrats to Jeff on the victory winning with the smoothest man in the galaxy always good to see!

I ran the TalaBand and went 4-1 with (18) points

4x Tala

4x Bandit

Going into yesterday I felt the Z swarm would be a sound counter to other Rebel beef or any YT silliness and for the most part my hypothesis was correct.

I was 4-0 going into my last match feeling good as I got paired with Ham Salad yet again, however leading 38-37 as time was about to expire my tale of woe was about to be etched. As Ham whiffs rerolls whiffs again with only one hit at range 2 on a Bandit with 2h, I proceed (of course) to throw two evades. Which now triggers the whiny blonde kid in the quad turret to shoot at me again, this time for three hits.

Good thing is that I've got a focus on the bandido right? (insert buzzer sound) Ooooo I'm sorry WRONG answer, the correct answer is not when you throw double blanks (insert Price is Right loser sound effect). Oh the capricious nature of the Dice Goddess, what have I done to offend thee so!? With that epic dice failure I drop from being second to tenth in blink of an eye. To quote Dire Straits, "sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug." A tough way to finish but I was supremely pleased how the TalaBand performed on the day at a premier event.

Thanks to the Store Wars crew and Josh for all of their efforts to get the event and then to orchestrate it yesterday. My appreciation also goes to my opponents (Benoit, Patrick, Shereef, Preston and of course my new Clark Kent/Glen Nielsen) thank you all for superior matches!

Canadian results updated with full squad lists and records.

I really had a brain fart in my top 8 match at our canadian nationals, I had my opponent z's all lined up for slaugther when Solo showed up and couldn't resist the lure to go after him. If I just had sticked to my plan, my chance for a win was very good. Instead, I let those z's live and they really where a pain. **** Han Solo...

I played friday night with a boba + whisper build against BBBBZ and couldn't get it to work (Gratz to Remi for doing it!). So I had to come up with something new in the morning of the tournament. Figured there will be a lot of YTs and Rebel Swarms. I know a little bit about playing against phantoms so they didn't really scared me. I went with BBBB with FCS on all of them and Jan Ors on one of the blues. 99 points because I really want to have Initiative against mirror match. It went really well. The mirror match in round two against BBBBZ really went to the last roll. Mid tournament I really thought that Jan Ors was a real waste of points until she proven to be quite useful later.

Keep in mind that all the rounds were 60 mins (Top 8 included). So a lot of the squads are built around that limitation.

I can't believe you came up with that on the fly Dany! That was the most creative B-Wing squad I've ever seen and the way you would set up your killer beta strike was a real lesson in tactics. I thought you must have cooked it up in a secret lab. It was a real pleasure finally meeting you and you were such a phenomenal good sport all day long. I remember in your match against Grish, I walked away for a bit came back and your uniform tightly formed B-Wing pinwheel that I watched all day rolling around like a deadly steel ball of death was sent off in all directions like leaves in the wind. You laughed and said Grish got you again!

Roark init and Ions is great vs. phantom but worthless against Han. Roark with a blaster is still dangerous to a phantom AND contribute meaningfully vs. Han.

Okay so. What is this new insistence on Roark with blaster turret and moldy crow over the ion cannon?

Can some explain this?

The blaster turret is better against the Falcon. It can do more than 1 damage and a single ion token is useless against a large ship. With all the Falcons around it seems like a wise choice.

ion is still good versus falcon. if u get the first ion to stick they r gonna be really worried about evading the 2nd ion attack which will mess with their math when defending attacks early in the turn. forcing them onto an asteroid or off the board is a huge threat vs a falcon.

I think the BTL 2nd attack with the ICT-forward is going to be a really interesting new meta. Opens up a lot of possibilities.

Is all of the information somewhere that we can easily see it. Maybe sorted by date?

Would be wonderful to have a public viewable excel sheet or something. Or google doc or website. Anyone interested?

Just the first page.

I have delusions of grandeur about eventually consolidating all tournament results for all time into one central web url, complete with tournament statistics, but won't have the time for the better part of a year to actually seriously start thinking about this.

Just do what you can and keep up the good work. ;)

It's sad how the fat falcon lists are just rolling over the last couple of tournaments. I hope ffg come up with something soon to address this like they did with swarm builds.

It is the combination of high maneuverability (boost), attack negation (C3P0, Jan, Lando), and high hull + shield values that make for the difficulty in beating falcon builds now.

So, I got the Cryodex tournament results (I'm sneaky like that), and from the Cryodex html, the Final Table is listed with Jeff winning 58-52. I'm assuming that's a typo because Blue + Blue + Bandit = 56 points. So I assume that it went to time with Chewbacca (48 points) vs 2 B's (44 points) for a 56-52 victory.

So was the final table timed at 60 minutes like the rest?

The problem with falcon and ions is you must have 2 sources of Ion. If you're bringing 24+pt Roark to the table and not bringing another ion source, you can't ion a large ship. So trade out ion for blaster and recon for 2pts more or add 3pts+ on another ship to hope it works. That's a lot of hope unless you are already building around ions.
