2014 Nationals Results
FYI, I just updated U.S. Nationals (GenCon) for Thursday's Flight with the full lists and rankings.
I think there are some errors in your records. Did Sean provide this information?
Why did #2 from first flight change his squad? Wouldn't you stick with it if you did that well?

I think that was the wrong Aaron. Here is the photo that I took of the results after they were posted on Thursday night. Also note that James is really #1 and everyone else should be one place lower.

Thursday's event was recorded on FFG computers so Sean doesn't have the data for Thursday. I'm going by the picture -- now the one you have above -- and scanned copies of the physical squad sheets that players submitted, sent to me by Stuart Wilson at FFG. There were a few that I wasn't sure of the name spelling for, I can go back and mark those.

Good catch. I just checked the googledoc where I transcribed squad details, and he qualified on Flight 1, but then played again on Flight 2. I incorrectly gave him the wrong squad on Saturday. I'm sure he flew Thursday's squad since that's what he qualified with, and therefore what he had to fly.

Ah, thanks, will update later tonight, along with your other errata that you PM'ed me. I wasn't sure what the deal was with James. Ranks on Thursday will get shifted down 1. Will fix tonight.
It's a shame if he didn't qualify with that list. Corran/Wes/wedge sounds like a blast!

Well, he should have flew Saturday with that 3 ship rebel list, and placed #20 with it. I'll check the electronic scanned sheets tonight.
Does anyone have contact info for either the Malaysian or Spanish Nationals? They are happening this weekend, and I want to contact them to try and get event results.
http://www.rojocinco.es/ is pretty good about putting results up for anything in Spain, but I would like to try and get all of the lists.
Also: I'll see about finally getting around to uploading GenCon Friday squads later this week.
Edited by MajorJugglerI actually think rojocinco is involved in some way or another on the organization of the spanish nationals, so you could try to contact them by mail (i doubt they couldn't give you a response on english). The best i can do is translate the lists if you need to, but i am not going to the nationals, trying hard to schedule to be able to go to the european.
Is it just me or are phantoms just popular at the moment, they are winning but there are just a lot of them and look reasonably even spread.
Having lots of phantoms results in higher chance of winning a tournament with one right.
So, in the Regionals thread I broke out the stats so you could see the conditional effectiveness of everything, to answer those types of questions.
But I haven't compiled the statistics yet. It is taking too long to manually fill in the Excel fields for each squad and its upgrades. I'm going to put all the results in a text file and write a script to parse it and compile statistics instead. However I'm busy writing my dissertation, so there is no ETA. Hopefully before Worlds, but no promises.
This isn't stopping anyone else from doing the same.
Either way, I still need to write a script to parse text or csv/excel and then compile the statistics. If you download the Excel file linked on the Regionals thread, you will see what I mean about manual entry into an Excel / csv file taking a long time. I have to add the point value for each pilot, and each upgrade, for each squad. Not a trivial matter when you have 600 squads to enter. Nationals is smaller but I'm still going to wait on stats compiling until I write a script to parse text/csv.
Malaysian and Spanish Regionals are this Saturday! I have contacted both and they will be getting us results. The Spanish Nationals is expecting around 160 players!

We are that passionate. Why do you think the European is going to be on Madrid too at November ?
News updates!
From another post here .
ahem, falcon just won malaysian nationals, and 2nd place was taken by a whisper echo list. during swiss rounds, top seed was taken by that same dual phantom list with 0 losses.
Lies. Jan Ors won Malaysian nationals.
HWK with engine upgrade to be precise
THAT RANGE 3 PRIMARY SHOT THAT LANDED ON THE PHANTOM. TWICE
My favorite was when Kyle landed a Crit on my opponent's X-wing at range 3.

1 thing I feel should be pointed out about the Malaysian Nationals is that the players that did pretty well previously have opted NOT to fly any builds involving falcons or phantoms as a protest against the current metagame, which would definitely skew the results seen here, as only 1 of them (Riznal) managed to make it into the top 8
These are the results from the New Zealand - Auckland Regional event.
Due to the remote nature of our country our shipping speed has ment that our kits arrive very late which means we run late. Our National Kit only arrived last week as an example.
We have 2 more regional events to run and I will post the results as best I can for them.
Here are the results for the Auckland Regional event hosted at the University of Auckland 27th September 2014.

Wow, that is SUPER meaningful! We have never had that kind of "experiment" before. So lets look at the Top 8 again:
- Winner: PS11 Han + Jan Ors
- 2nd place: 2x ACD Phantom + Backstabber
- Top 4: 7 TIE Swarm
- Top 4: 4-ship rebel, with Biggs and PS12 Ion Cannon Turret
- Top 8: ACD Phantom + mini-swarm
- Top 8: Fat Han + 3 Z's
- Top 8: ACD Phantom + Ace squint + Lambda (Yorr)
- Top 8: ACD Phantom + Ace Squint + TIEs
Only 2 out of the top 8 were NOT Falcon or Phantoms. What players specifically avoided playing Fat Falcons and Phantoms? The results heavily imply that they did not make the cut because they flew different kinds of squads.
Edit: the winner didn't have C-3P0. which may not be "Fat" depending on some definitions.

Off the top of my head, Riznal, Justin and James Leu were involved in this pledge. I will check with them to see if there are any other players involved.
Regarding "quality of players", all 3 were previous Store Champions in Malaysia, James won the Malaysian Regionals, Justin managed top 8 for Singapore Regionals and Malaysian Regionals, and Riznal consistently comes in 1st for multiple monthly tournaments

Great, thanks! Do you have dates and locations set up for the next Regionals and Nationals? Total attendance would be very nice to have (edit, it looks like 18), and as many of the squad lists as possible, but if you don't have most of them then no worries. Next time, hopefully.
I don't need names to track results or statistics, and am fine with removing names from my results pages. I only started adding them recently because people were including them and it was helpful in pointing out who lost to who during the elimination brackets.
A further question: I see that Rebel Aces is available to play, but what about C-3P0? (Tantive expansion)

11/24 players - Chose not to fly Falcons/phantoms
Only 18% of them made top 8 but this data point taken in a vacuum is misleading. Other than their round 1 games (which I have no recollection of) both ran through a solid gauntlet of Falcons/Phantoms. From glancing over the table Riznal's games vs either of them seemed pretty one sided in his favor.

No Phantom or Falcon...but 7 Tie Howl Swarm?...is that any better?
I'm sure we will see the swarm make a come back eventually.
