New Arda write up

By 2P51, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I'm quite happy with the Squad Rules from the GM Kit, but personally I don't ever see myself needing actual 'mass combat' rules for engagements involving fleets of ships fighting each other.

That kind of thing I'd handle narratively, because it's mostly happening offscreen from the PCs.

If the PCs are Lando and Nien Nunb in the Falcon and Han and Leia on the ground, personally I'm not sure I'd need rules to determine what happens between the Imperial and Rebel fleets.

Having the course of a battle procedurally generated by a rules system makes it a bit easier to have the bad guys win without it seeming like a total GM hose job.

If it bothers someone that the Mass Combat rules are in an Adventure, here is a simple solution for you:

Think of Arda is an expansion book on Mass Combat. But wait, it happens to have an adventure included where you can try out the Mass Combat rules too! Win!

No it bothers people that FFG's marketing approach is more high end and less Walmart would be my guess.....

This also answers the long-running question of whether FFG would be releasing products for the game lines concurrently, or on a rotating schedule. It would appear that we'll be seeing two books a month.

Edit: Of course, this may just be a special event for GenCon, and given the lack of any news or announcements about a book that would have a September release, it's possible that we won't see the next sourcebook/module released until October.

Maybe. The release is in conjunction with Gencon, so I would probably wait and see come September through the end of the year if that continues after August before I would count on it.

Yeah, I thought of that after I posted. Looks like I edited mine just as you were posting this.

What I think we can look forward to would be a slew of product announcements at Gencon time. They don't have anything listed for Q4 and F&D is likely going to be released as well at Gencon, so we have nothing on deck really for SEP or Q4.

What did they announce last year? I know the AOR beta was on sale, were there announcements of other upcoming books?

The had EtU on display.

When is Far Horizons coming if not September?

Edit: Never mind I looked it up. I'm tight on money this month so I guess I'll buy one this month and one next

Food costs aren't the problem unfortunately. The problem is that the birthdays of two of my closest friends are a day apart and both are this month which means my budget is always strained in August.

Well, the solution is clear to me: two friends, two books! "Here, I got you a copy of Far Horizons - Happy Birthday! Now, I know how crowded your place is, so I will be more than happy to store it here at my home for you on my special shelf. Yes, yes - I know, I'm that good of a friend. . . ."

One of the pair I've been trying to convince to join our RP group for over a decade but he had really bad experiences with the group he was part of at college, and bad experiences in a SAGA demo and doesn't want to try again. I tried telling him FFG was different and our GM isn't nearly as much of a jerk as his old one but he doesn't want to risk it :(

The other I've always worried that if he tried roleplaying and something bad happened to his character he would start throwing books, and possibly small chairs at people. He once threw a yearbook at someone in high school because the person had beaten him in a pickup game of Star Fox 64 at a friend's party a couple of days earlier.
