Upgrade Idea: Countermeasures

By SOUTHPAWMIKE, in X-Wing

An idea for an upgrade card I had:

COUNTERMEASURES

Slot: Systems Upgrade

Cost: 2

Place three Countermeasure tokens on this card. When this ship is defending, you may discard any number of tokens on the card. For each token discarded this way, you may add one green defense dice to your roll.

Couple this with the TIE Advanced title that adds a system upgrade slot that people have been wanting, and there's a good start for Imperial Aces 2.

Thanks for looking.

It looks like there might be a counter measure modification card that comes with the YT-2400. Then again it could be something else...It just looks like counter measure

Other than that possibility, the idea is interesting but to ensure three evades for two points seems kind of low no? Especially when sensor jammer doesn't event turn the hit to a blank when defending and that's four points. Then again that is also always on whenever defending. So maybe two isn't too bad...

I undercosted it due to it's discardable nature. It's only going to work 1 2 or 3 times, depending on how much you want to commit to a defense roll. It's also not a garunteed result. it doesn't automatically ensure anything, just adds a number of dice to your defense roll. They could still all whiff.

up the cost to four and give evade tokens instead

Counter measures in todays world are used against missiles. A system upgrade that was designed against them might be well worth a few points, particularly with the new ions and proton rockets on the way. Perhaps gives you 2 extra dice against missiles and torpedoes. 2 pts.

Agreed. On the grounds of simplicity, either an extra dice against missiles and torpedoes, or, if it's a universal thing, make it a one-use card.

I can't remember any 'dump chaff' type countermeasures in X-wing? I know the A-wing had a defensive jammer, though.

Evade works pretty good as a countermeasure. It is a guarantees a cancel of one hit.

However there is already countermeasures called sensor jammer. Turn on hit into a focus and it can't be re-rolled with target lock or any pilot ability.

Well it seems like the new Countermeasure card does two things: removes a target lock and increases your evade. So that seems to cover the basics pretty well there.
