Force sensitive force rating

By Elgaric, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Okay I am aware you can get this up to 2 already

However with the release of AOE we have a whole new talent tree and specialization, if a player who is already a FSE purchases the extra specialisation from AOE would you give them a +1 force rating for that purchase?

I have already said the player can have access to the new powers without purchasing the new spec but it's a good point they raise thought I'd get you guys opinion

Thank you

No, you can work through the tree to the next FR upgrade but you don't get another Force die for simply buying into Emergent. The powers they would have access to regardless, the powers aren't tied to the universal specializations.

I believe AoR explicitly says no.

As 2P51 states, you do NOT gain an additional level of Force Rating for entering into Emergent/Exile when you already have the sister specialisation. The only way to increase your Force Rating to 3 is to purchase both instances of the Force Rating talent at the end of both trees.

Force Powers can be purchased by anyone with a Force Rating of 1 or higher. They are not linked to specific trees or specialisations.

Thank you for the help

FFG changed the wording on a few things to make it clearer...

When you buy the FSEx or FSEm, it is writen "Gain Force Rating 1", so if you already have Force Rating 1 or above, you get nothing. To get another Force Rating, it would have been written "Gain +1 Force Rating". So if you buy either FSEx or FSEm first, you gain Force Rating 1 from either of them, but you don't get another Force Rating if you buy the second one.

Same goes for the defense mechanics. Cover states "Gain Defense 1" same has armors, so they don't stack. But some talents are written "Gain +1 Range Defense" so they do stack.

Hope it helps.

Yeah, the devil is in the details of understanding, heheh. Had a few of these arguments with some of my players. Almost the same one regarding improving characteristics and whether Force Rating is a characteristic (per RAW it isn't).
