The Great Debate #44: Strongest Dimension Monster Series- Diamond (last in the series)

By Guest, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I will only put the strong monsters for debate. No point of putting cultsits, etc. No spawns/masks would be included, either. Also I'm aware the title says "strongest" but you should really choose the monster that has the largest impact.

Also, why is is the last? Becaus there is no star monster than can compete with Star Vampire and there is no plus monster that can compete with Star Spawn.

While the Shoggoth is definately harder to kill, Hunting Horror takes the cake, being almost as annoying as Hound of Tinadol. Is there even room for debate?

Previous Great Debates

Yes, there is. Hunting Horror is pretty annoying, yes; but if pressed we could kill one. But we try to avoid Shoggoths when possible. Physical Resistance is often a worse barrier than Magical Resistance.

Why do I get the feeling that wehenever I say something everyone else says the opposite? :/

*goes back in time, this times posts that shoggoth is stronger. yep I was right, tibs now says hunting horror is stronger :(*

Hunting Horror is harder to evade and will hunt investigators. Shoggoth isn't too difficult to sneak by, but it is fast and typically makes the streets dangerous and blocks travel.

Same Horror check and sanity damage, but Shoggoth is nightmarish, so wins here.

Magical Resistence is a pain, but Physical Resistence is worse. The Hunting Horror may do more combat damage, but if you kill it you won't have to take the damage. The Shoggoth has an extra toughness which is a big deal. You will need 3 more dice to kill the Shoggoth than you will the Hunting Horror.

Shoggoth wins in most situations. If he is drawn because of a gate or mythos card. But if you draw a monster because of an encounter the Hunting Horror wins

Um... because it's a debate?

I think I have to say the Shoggoth as well. That extra toughness is the real killer. I tend to think of Shoggoths as Dark Young with motivation.

Hmm... I wouldn't want either. My gut is telling me that Hunting Horror is worse simply because once it comes into play it pretty much has to be dealt with. Shoggoths we just ignore. So, Hunting Horror, though both are a serious pain.

Ok...this is definetly the closest for me. I greatly dislike both of these beasts. The Hunting Horror is usually more annoying due to its jump abilitie...yet the Shoggy is much worse in actual combat.

Shoggoth...but only barely.
