I've been called many things, but I don't think Hitler was one of them. Though, if I understand the rant sent to me in a recent private message, somebody didn't appreciate me using the clip from Inglorious Basterds to illustrate my distaste at another "is FFG dropping hints in card art?" thread. I thought it was pretty funny myself.

Ah, so YOU fulfilled Godwin's Law!
Most excellent.
A single Cartel faction (or some other more suitable name) that could encompass a couple of the more well known smuggler/pirate groups and could include the Corporate Sector Authority since they were known to use criminals for their more nefarious work. It would be open enough to include a wide variety of small and large vessels and with the Custom Frigate that appeared first as a CSA ship would give them at least one huge ship.

It's not like we are saying the vong need to come in.
You mean you don't want Coralskipper A, Coralskipper B (slower, more tanky) Large Based Coralskipper, Coralskipper C (the one that ends up stronger than the other Coralskippers)

I'm a firm believer that Hitler jokes should be tasteful, and used sparingly.
If you boil it down to simple math, there's a pretty indisputable reason for introducing a third faction.
Two factions = fewer total ships/options, you'll get all possible Imp/Reb ships eventually
Three+ factions = more total ships/options, you'll still get all possible Imp/Reb ships eventually
Simple math? Indisputable? Really?
More isn't always better.

That's pretty faulty logic.
First it assumes that FFG can't simply make up new ships for Reb's and Imps.
Also it assumes there will be no new canon ships, which we all know is untrue what with Rebellion coming out this fall.
So no your "math" is far from indisputable, and to be honest isn't really even math, because math doesn't say More = Better only that More = More.
Math was a stupid word to use.
But, yeah, it is an indisputable reason. In that you cannot dispute that more factions would mean more overall ships. What you can dispute is whether or not that reason is enough to warrant a new faction, against the various reasons for not including one (short-term imbalance being chief among them, and the one I fear/sympathize with most).
Even with new canon ships, the "math" (
) holds up. Add all of those and then add Black Sun and you're still left with more options than just adding the hypothetical new ones.
I think folks concentrate too hard on finding the right time to use hitler jokes, personally.

Hitler's a little strong, but you do remind me of an Ork; easily offended, and always seems to be looking for a fight.
You don't happen to drive a red car, do you?
I don't know about easily offended; thick skinned might be a better analogy.

I would hope he drives a red car. They go faster, right?
No, they go fasta .

Then there is a glorious new OUTER RIM BOXED SET... with a Hutt and a couple of Blackies and new rules for these babies.
Just say'n.
What about the Zann Consortium?

Wrong size for us, but in this image they are in the correct relative scale.

You clearly do not speak proper Orc.
How do you mechanically tie several disparate factions into one generic group? Rebels tend to be fewer, more expensive and more potent, and the Empire just the opposite. What unifying factor(s) can be sensibly translated into the game for an amalgamation of third factions?
Do you still see this as the case since the release of wave 4, and looking at wave 5? My last few games have been powerful 3 ship Imperials, and a good number of people are running 5+ rebel squads with the Z-95s. I see the current factional difference being Rebels have generally mid range costed ships, and the Empire has more extreme high & low cost ships.
I understand your points about balance, but I really think some of the other poster's idea that adding ever more ships to the two current factions has a greater likelihood of creating imbalance, than another faction could. Esthetically, I see adding too many EU ships to the Empire & Rebellion will diminish the iconic feel of those factions for those of us who never heard of those ships. Personally I like the EU ships they added, but the only ones I'm familiar with are the Headhunter & the Outrider. I'm not crazy with the idea of there eventually being more EU ships in the Empire & Rebellion than original trilogy ships.
The best NOT Cannon argument for me, is seeing Empire vs Empire, and even worse Rebel vs Rebel.
Boo, Hiss, that is some BS right there!
The third faction would chill that BS completely.
If Wave Six was half Black Sun with a 5.5 or 6.5 little boxed set like the wonderful Aces Series we could have an awesome new layer of detail in the game that would be cool, not terribly outclassed by the main factions, and that would help the game continue to flourish for years to come.
A lot of people know about and love the EU stuff.
The Rouge Squadron Novels are as much a part of Star Wars as the first film trilogy.
Those Rebel vs Rebel and Empire vs Empire matches are either training exercises, or the post Battle of Endor Imperial Moffs battling each other for control of the Empire.

Where did those come from??
Edited by Mikael HasselsteinYeh, there are plenty of Imperial v Imperial examples, TIE Fighter is full of 'em!
Further, the odds of someone forming a rebellion, and every single member being on the level is slim. Even if not documented, there had to be some bad seeds, or folks who were corrupted by power/rage/revenge later.

Yeah the Empire did fight, like the evil dogs that they are... but Rebels fighting... HELL NAH!

There is a guy that sold these on eBay.
I have not checked on it in a while because they are not in the right scale for the game.

That is cool man, but that horrible grain these models have just ruins it for me.
