My bet is that Jabba will take up two crew slots....
THE BLACK SUN COMETH!
The obvious solution would be pilot cards for existing ships (Firespray, Z95 etc.) However this is a longshot and very unlikelyI want one to come about.
But I don't know if they will. If they do, they need their own grouped set so you can play them as a faction right off the bat, preferably with three ships.
The key issue with that is...
1: Having those ships in the first place
2: Those ships have already been identifiably assigned both Rebel and Imperial. For the sake of simplicity and lack of confusion, new ships are required.
I doubt they would have pilot card for existing ships to create a 3rd faction.
If they were going to do cross-faction ships, the Lambda and the Tantive IV were prime candidates.

Yup.
I disagree on the Lambda. That thing was reserved for important Imperial Personnel. Sure, some were captured, but not as many as we think.

There was a bounty hunter that used a lambda, Jodo Kast. Foxfire was the name, I think someone on here did a remod of it, I'm sure Joe will remember.

Yeah it was our boy ZombieHedgeHog
Look at page nine of the topic.
You know I got you guys... on some of this stuff anyhow.
Foxcatch, Jodo Kast's ship. I keep thinking of moding mine and using it as a generic bounty hunter, since I'm terrible at flying the lambda and it's basically just a display model on my shelf. But it's just so cool looking as is, I can't bring myself to cutting it up.
Sure, but see. I left room for error.

You're not really disproving anything.
I could only see the Lambda crossing faction in a mission scenario, and I don't see FFG releasing it, that's just something to homebrew.
Who Dat Who?
I really hate to be this guy, but they just introduced Commander Kenkirk who was a boss in Star Wars Galaxies. The whole reason there was a dungeon to kill was due to the fact that he was helping his CO sell their Star Destroyer to the Black Sun. With the new intimidation card and this, I've gone from 20-80 no to maybe even 50/50 it could happen.
LOL, this thread is all over the place.
I would like to see lots of EU ships, many of which would not traditionally fall under the label of "Rebel" or "Imperial." However, there are several strong reasons against using a "third" faction to do it.
1. Game Balance - Game balance requires a considerable amount of playtesting and design. If there is a third faction, it would effectively double resources spent on balancing gameplay. Most of the players I've met are competitive (not casual) game players. They play the game because they know that no matter what faction comes to the table, they can expect to have a fair chance at winning. FFG's success with the X-Wing game is based in large part on how fair the game is. Should that be disturbed, they risk ruining an already successful game.
2. Slower Release Schedule - If a third faction is released, its going to require much more playtesting as mentioned above. Unless FFG hires more people, we'd see a delay in release of new X-Wing products.
3. History of Independent Ships - FFG has already released ships that would seem to belong in a Third Faction. The Firespray, HWK, Z-95 and light Corellian freighters are all more aligned with smugglers, bounty hunters and pirates. So why would they change how these independent ships are released now?
I'm more of a casual player. I don't play in leagues or tournaments; I play at home with friends or use the models for FFG's role-playing Star Wars games. So my concern is how quickly we'll see more ships if a third faction is released. I think we'd see more of these EU ships if they can be integrated into the two existing factions.
Here's one idea, and I'm just tossing it out there without thinking too much about it, but maybe the independent ships could be used by both existing factions. So the Preybird or Cloakshape could fly alongside an X-Wing or TIE Fighter.
All of those ships sound like somebody named them by smashing their keyboard with their face.
So how about a uzhu4ezbhu or a kkjjkl?
(smashed the keyboard with my face)
The problem I see with adding a mercenary or smuggler faction is where does that leave boba fett. Will he stay empire or can you use him in either faction? Not necessarily a problem but just something that would need to be addressed I think.

I'm withholding my judgment until I see the uzhu4ezbhu's dial. The kkjjkl, on the other hand, is clearly OP.

They could just do a firespray with a Kath repaint, packaged as the new faction. I don't see it happening, but we would buy it if they did.

Sure I would buy it haha. I just meant what would happen to the existing bounty hunters that are already out. Would they be allowed to cross faction?
If they had alternate cards for the new faction, you could.
ZOING!!!
Man, this is awesome. I'm surprised to see how close this is to some of my guesses on how they'd package and release the faction too. Even the stats on the IG-2000 seem close to my homebrew version, only I gave it 5/3 hul & shields, theirs is 4/4, and it looks like it has either a boost or barrel roll.
So, the StarViper and the Most Wanted Z-95's have the Black Sun emblem painted on them.
So what Joe Boss Red Seven told us was true... from a certain point of view.
I TRY...
