Trying to organize an event: need playmats or something like them!

By Shinren, in X-Wing Organized Play

As I have written in the title, I'm trying to organize an x-wing tournament in my area (Italy), but I think I'll need a lot of playmats...

What do you usually use while organizing tournaments with a lot of tables ??

Waiting for advices !!

Thanks !!

Really you just need one 3 X 3 mat. If you have that, just use masking tape to trace the outline of the mat on a regular table surface. It's not really ideal, but it works in a pinch.

Even sheets of black paper work. Seen that. Pretty cheap too.

This was my idea, but I thought that the table surface could be too slippery for the ships...

Generic black felt is pretty cheap and can easily be cut to size. Affix temporarily with masking tape and you're goo to go.

If you go to your local fabric or hobby store you should be able to pick up a few yards of felt for next to nothing. I went to our local JoAnn Fabrics and bought enough for 2 mats and was out a grand total of $3.58 after tax. within 10 minutes i had 2 perfectly square mats for play.

I second Jo-Anns.
But to add to that, you can get the kind that looks like it was glitter on it, which is about a dollar more per yard than the other kind. It looks like stars. Since they are usually base 72 inches, you can get about 2 mats per yard this way. So depending on how many tables you need, you can get set up pretty quick.

If you go to a hardware store, you'll probably find cardboard near the painting sections that's roughly 4x3. I use it at my FLGS when we run out of table toppers and need to put together regular folding tables to make a 3x3 playing area. If you put it over top of the two table surfaces, it smooths out the gap that you get where the two tables join together.

thanks everyone !!! really good ideas !!!
