I really hope not. The TIE Advanced was not a mass-production model. While in-universe aspects should not dictate all aspects of the game to the expense of playability, I do think that it should try to respect it where it can.

Well, technically all of the ships in the game are rare. Only a scant few see more than two being played at any given time. I'd be okay with the Advanced being buffed if it meant I saw even one being fielded at a serious event. Now, if they release as many Advanced pilots as they have Interceptors, that might be a bit farfetched.

Some speculate a future Battle of Yavin package that includes a Y-Wing and TIE-Advanced repaints, upgrade cards, and a cost fix card like the Chaardan Retrofit (-2 cost but takes the missile slot, A-Wing only) that will come with the Rebel Aces pack this quarter. However, this may be nothing more than wishful thinking. There's been no official announcement to suggest a Battle of Yavin pack or TIE Advanced repaint is on the way.

You make a good point.... allow a 3 point reduction and any tie that bumps an advance sends the advance tumbling into space for three rounds.... well argued.

Not every ship needs a fix. The advanced is what it is. Expensive and experimental. The Empire has enought ships.

Just put out a title for it with some implemented fixes, some new pilots, ala aces and some repaints and its all good. Easy to do, makes sense and really all the ships should get a bit extra love if they languish without use.

Ideas for the Advanced:

Advanced Cannons: Immediately after making an attack, this ship may make a second attack with its primary weapon.

Not too overpowering, as the Advanced only has two attack dice, and the defender gets defense against both attacks. Also limited by attack modifiers. But gives it a slight offense boost in a way that's different from just giving an extra red die.

Or just give it an upgrade like Test Pilot. Imagine Vader with Predator and Outmaneuver?

Give every TIE-A an extra EPT? So for example Darth would have two EPT? There's enough EPT's out there that having two would go a long way to equalizing. This way you don't change anything else about the stat lines.

Otherwise I'd like to see the 2AD become 3AD.

But honestly I use him quite frequently for fun lists. And usually just with his ship or the EPT that comes with the the expansion, Squad Leader.

I don't see a revised dial with the huge ship, since you would have to buy a huge ship for every Advanced you wanted to fly with the new dial. That sort of thing isn't usually FFG's MO. If the dial changes, it would probably be to a TIE Fighter dial, since that comes with the core set, so everybody playing should have 2 already. Personally, I don't see a dial change being what occurs, if anything does.

I'd like to see the Advanced have some type of ability like Howlrunner. Its supposed to be a command ship, so give it something that buffs a group of TIEs. Let it operate like a command ship.

There is zero design space for a proper Avenger with the way the Defender was released. Its also in a totally different league than the TIE Advanced. Stats would be 3/3/3/4, dial better than Interceptor, interceptor actions plus target lock. And a completely different body style.

The Avenger and the Defender both had 100SBD shields, so both should be 3/3/3/4. Since the Defender is 3/3/3/3 that essentially means the Avenger would also have to be the same thing. The primary difference was the Defender commonly used a beam weapon.

The original TIE Fighter PC game version of the Defender had 200 SBD shields, and maneuverability and speed that literally can not be recreated by the existing game mechanics. The TIE Avenger was created as a precursor to this version. Its hard to see how they would have the design space to implement that in game, but I love the model and will buy whatever they put out.

I don't think there is. If it's 3 Attack/3 Agility--which it would more or less have to, given canonical comparisons to ships we already have--it's going to be competing with the Interceptor (typically cheap and fragile) and Defender (typically expensive but with heavy shields).

You could mess around with the dial, and change the upgrades a bit (maybe hand out the system slot, although I'd prefer for those to remain rare). But the major spoiler is the Royal Guard TIE title, because it means not only do you have to find design space between 3/3/3/0 and 3/3/3/3, but you also have to find design space between 3/3/4/1 and 3/3/3/3, and I'm not at all confident that can be done.

Fair point but it wouldn't be hard for them to put in a second dial per pack. Wouldn't be much more different from get the reb aces packs for the char refit.

Bottom line is they NEED to do something with, as it stands, no one is buying the advanced due to it sucking.

I think they could use the advanced as an Avenger. Perhaps the repaint has a slightly altered body shape. No more odd then all the painted squints being able to be used as Royal Guard Ties.

I'm sure they will do something novel with it, they've done well enough so far, have some faith wingers. One day, we will sign on and not see a " How do we fix the Advanced ? " post.
