Duskblade during the finale.

By Vault756, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So we're playing the finale Gryvorn Unleashed and in it Sir Alric shows up equipped with the Duskblade since we never did any of the quests around the Duskblade/Dawnblade relic. My question is does the overlord just get to keep the Duskblade here? If we kill Alric can we take it? Can it be given to another Lieutenant? Can the Overlord keep it to give it to Baron Zachareth in Encounter 2?

No. The Overlord is not rewarded the Duskblade for victory, so he doesn't get to keep it if he didn't have it before the quest. Also, in the rules it states that relics are assigned at the setup of each quest (though from the rest of the paragraph, it seems like maybe it's supposed to say "encounter".) However, as written, a relic is assigned an owner at the start of a quest- so since Alric has the Duskblade (as per the rules of encounter 1) it's not available for Zachareth, even if the OL could somehow keep it.

Can the overlord hand it off to another lieutenant? Like say Belthir?

Nope. As far as I know, lieutenants can't trade relics. The quest specifies that Alric has it, so Alric has to have it. Relics (in the hands of the OL) aren't like normal items- they don't get equipped at start of turn- they get "equipped" at start of quest.

Zaltyre has already answered this and I agree with his answers, I'm just going to toss in my two cents anyway :P

When the rules say that the Overlord counts as having won any Act I quests that weren't played, that only means for the purpose of choosing Act II quests. It tells you which Act II quests are available. The Overlord does not receive any of the rewards for unplayed quests.

My question is does the overlord just get to keep the Duskblade here?

Alric gets the Duskblade because the set up rules say he has it. This is effectively a special quest rule for this encounter only.

If there were any future quests after this, the Overlord would not have access to the Duskblade unless he already had it from having won the relevant Act II quests. Not that it matters since this is the last quest in the campaign anyway.

If we kill Alric can we take it?

No, relics never change hands like this. The only way the heroes can get the Dawnblade is to win it as a reward from one of the relevant quests.

Can it be given to another Lieutenant? Can the Overlord keep it to give it to Baron Zachareth in Encounter 2?

Nope, like Zaltyre said, relics are assigned for the duration of an entire quest. The fact that Alric has it in E1 means it's stuck to him and therefore unavailable in E2. Also as discussed, there are no rules for LTs trading relics during game play, so it can't be given over to another LT the way heroes trade items.
