fun with phantom?

Okay, I had missed the target lock, so I will accept your point there. However...

1. Have you flown this against a range of opponents? whenever I've used FCS with a phantom I've never shot the same ship 2 turns in a row.

2. The free focus for whisper can't be used on the attack and goes at the end of the turn. Could be useful for defence, but at 3 agility dice rather than 4 you're limiting it's effectiveness.

3. The TL would apply whether you use focus or expose, so let me adjust my formula:

0.75(d+1) > 0.9375d

This holds true for values of d up to 3. at 4 dice it's equal, whilst at range 1 you're better off with TL & focus. Given all the other negatives of evade (lack of an EPT, reduced defence, 4 point cost) I would, personally be wanting more for my investment.

4. just a quick devil's advocate point to show I'm not completely close-minded: if the defensive penalties of expose are ever going to be mitigated it's by a ship with the arc dodging capabilities of the phantom. Trouble is this is merely one of a host of penalties with expose.

5. dreadstar's point about you being at 2 defence dice against HSF is also very valid.

I appreciate that you have looked into the probabilities, which is more than most advocates of expose, I'm just can't agree with your conclusions.

As for the final point about my suggestions, ptl is sort of viable with advanced sensors. You don't stay stressed but you are limiting yourself to a green manoeuvre. I'm not saying it's the best build in the world, but it's one that better players than me have advocated.

Secondly, outmanoeuvre. admittedly I've been using echo rather than whisper, which does give you better movement options, but it's so easy to get yourself out of arc that it's a really worthwhile upgrade. Plus I like to play tricksy. An " all you have to do is attack" build would bore me. One that forces me to keep trying to get out of arcs is lots of fun and very rewarding when it works.

My suggestions may have been contradictory (I assume this was what you meant instead of contacting, as if anything they were expansive) but you can only have one of them, they just provide you with different options for different builds.

Fire control system is perfect for the phantom later on the game, when things get more scrappier, it allows you to do dodge and barrel roll more comfortabily, if you have gunner, of there is stuff on the table that you won't be able to focus down one turn (falcons, firespray), it is also very helpful to be able to maintain that dodge, so after shooting and hitting you would have 1 dodge + 1 concentration + stealth, being able to shrug off most fire directed at you from those pesky 360 turrets.

eurgh that's a horrible list. But then I guess we are using echo, so who are we to talk, right?

Now I need to find someone with 2 falcons so I can try out against it. I'm thinking outmanoeuvre takes out c3po and even echo would be cloaked against chewie's shot back. Just need to keep lando at a distance. Tricky, but what a challenge.

The more I think about things the more I think I want anti pursuit lasers on my shuttle blocking things up and getting free attacks.

What is a horrible list ? And no, i use whisper.

Reb captive/Gunner/Intelligence + Fire control + ACD + Veteran Instincts is pretty much standard on whisper.

lol, posted to the wrong thread. I was talking about a 2 falcon list on the echo thread. Sorry for the misunderstanding, I wasn't criticising your list, I just somehow managed to get my threads in a muddle.

Starting out, I think the pilot has to be Echo. I also think ACD adds a chunk of manoeuvrability as it means she can decloak every turn, aside from the fact that it's a no-brainer. I'm thinking of advanced sensors for how this can used to add a pre-manoeuvre barrel roll.

I'm going to team her up with a doom shuttle and a defender (mainly because it gives me chance to try out my new ships, but also because it gives me a toolbox type lost the I enjoy flying with my rebels).

Fixed

Proof?

Proof?

Let's not go there again.

Played with echo last night took gunner which never got used, outmanouver which was really effective and fire control I never had less than 4 hits and she ate through Biggs, wedge and blount killing one per turn.

I'll lose gunner for next match not sure what I'll take instead yet but the phantom though fragile used right is lethal.

Question, if one kills the victim in one shot, how does FCS come into play?

With gunner. You shoot at a high-agility target (with stealth, at range 3, through asteroids, w/e), you don't spend your focus, you attack again with 4/5 dice with TL + Focus, bingo! Bonus points if he spends his focus/evade token on the first attack.
